Ambasciata d'Abruzzo
Via Pietro Tacchini 26 Rome Italy Telephone: +39 (6) 806-8256 Description In the Parioli district, this restaurant is usually crammed with locals, as a jovial proprietor and his staff keep bellowing, "Mangia, mangia, mangia!" ("Eat, eat, eat!") and similar encouragements. Even as the host carries platters to his patrons, he spoons free bites to other clients along his happy route. The moment you sit down, a basket with 17 types of sausage is placed on your table, plus a cutting board, bread, cheeses and knives. Then you are given a stack of plates and told to take anything (and as much) as you want from the terraces of antipasto. Serious gourmands then go on to roasts, fowl, trout and a menu so long that visions blur just glancing at it. It's absolutely imperative to reserve in advance, especially on a Saturday afternoon. The entrance, incidentally, is so narrow that you may squeeze in, but if you "Mangi, mangi, mangi!" as the man says, you won't be able to squeeze out.
