San Pietro in Vincoli

Under the central altar of this 5th-century church are the chains that bound St. Peter after his arrest in Palestine. However, most people come here now to view Michelangelo's sculpture of Moses (1545) adorning the sadly incomplete tomb of Pope Julius II. By the way, the "horns" coming out of Moses's head are meant to be rays of light. Only the two flanking figures of Leah and Rachel, earlier works, are also by the master.
