Fontana di Trevi (Trevi Fountain)A coin tossed into what is probably the world's most visited fountain (face away from it when you pitch the money) is supposed to guarantee your return to Rome. Toss a second one, and you get to make a wish! The newly restored Trevi Fountain was slowly constructed from 1732 to 1751, by Nicolo Salvi from a design by Bernini. Most warm afternoons and certainly evenings, the youth of Rome gather on its flanks for socializing. Pigeons, however, do not. During a three-year cleaning and patching, workmen installed a low-voltage electric-shock system to discourage fowl play.
