Santa Cecilia in Trastavere

This exquisite church, dedicated to the patron saint of music, is one of the oldest churches in Rome, dating back to the 4th century. Besides paintings and frescoes, the church contains a celebrated statue of the saint by Maderno. Cecilia was briefly disinterred in the late 16th century, and the statue was modeled on the saint's miraculously preserved remains.

The façade of the church is especially pretty when illuminated at night, showcasing 13th- and 14th-century mosaics and a Romanesque campanile.
