How do I upload to artpacks.acid.org? A. First, read and understand our global incoming rules and policies, posted at: http://artpacks.acid.org/www/html/rules.html Then, using any standard FTP client, connect to ftp://ftp.artpacks.acid.org/pub/artpacks/incoming/ select the appropriate subdirectory and binary upload your file. --[ 2 ]--------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. Does this archive allow ZIP files to be uploaded? A. Yes. Once upon a time we had quite literally ran out of disk space on the hard drive we were sharing other archives while doubly exceeding our original space quota. At that time we were enforcing a RAR-only policy which has since been lifted. We now accept both RAR or ZIP uploads. --[ 3 ]--------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. Why was my uploaded file deleted from the archive? A. All incoming uploads are processed automatically by our scripts, rarely handled by human hands. They can be picky at times, so read, understand and commit to memory our uploading rules. They are available online at http://artpacks.acid.org/www/html/rules.html You may also find it helpful to refer to the log file which is located at ftp://ftp.artpacks.acid.org/pub/artpacks/incoming/incoming.log --[ 4 ]--------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. I am having problems using Netscape to download files with the .RAR extension. A. You should not be experiencing this problem if you are downloading .RAR from our primary host. If you are attempting to retrieve files from a mirror site follow these steps (Internet Explorer or Netscape): EASY: Hold down the shift key and left click on the filename. This force a binary download. --[ 5 ]--------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. How many times was 'anyfile.zip' downloaded yesterday? A. Every day, CDROM.COM generates over 70 megabytes in log files. Alot of processing power is required to parse through and count the number of downloads for a single file on a given day. In the past, Shivan Bastard had a script setup to count all downloads since any given date. This script is now defunct and has been taken offline. (http://artpacks.acid.org/www/filestats.html) If you have access to a shell account you can simply grep the downloads for a given day after downloading the logs yourself. This information will be made available at http://artpacks.acid.org/www/logs --[ 6 ]--------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. Who uploaded 'anyfile.zip'? A. We only log the IP address, date and time a file was uploaded. You can grep through logs at the URL listed in Answer #5. --[ 7 ]--------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. How do I uncompress .lzh files? A. Many different archive formats have thrived throughout the years, and lzh is just one of many that is no longer widely used. Decompression utils for any archive type on the site are located in /pub/artpacks/programs/(os)/archivers. --[ 8 ]--------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. Why can't I upload the file 'doOdLe!!!.zip' ? A. Specially reserved characters such as '!' and '#' can often cause problems when used in filenames on Unix machines. Make sure all filenames are solely composed of alphanumeric characters and are ISO-9660 compliant. ("a-z", "0-9", "_", or "-"). (An exception to the ISO-9660 rule is made for the '-' hyphen char.) --[ 9 ]-------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. What types of files are accepted at artpacks.acid.org? A. This archive is here to serve the art scene community and viewers. Naturally we accept artpacks, viewing and editing application tools, and magazines with content relative to the art scene. Uploads which do not meet this criteria are usually deleted. When our archive was created, a ceiling of 400 megabytes was imposed. This made it imperative that we accept nothing but artpacks and artpacks utilities. Since then we have broken the 400mb barrier, now hosting over 3 gigabytes of artpacks-related paraphenalia. Any kind of magazine based on the artscene such as reviews, tutorials, etcetera are welcomed in the incoming/mags tree. Files not allowed on this archive which are repeatedly uploaded will be blacklisted. --[ 10 ]-------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. How come the Top 10 Charts aren't being updated? A. If you encounter any errors with any of the scripts, please send a short email including the URL and exact details of the problem to murray@cdrom.com. Otherwise it could go by unnoticed. --[ 11 ]-------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. What language was this archive programmed in? A. All of the CGI was done with Perl 5.003. Current operating system for the scripts is FreeBSD 3.2-STABLE, and most of the actual coding is done on Shivan Bastard's local Linux workstation using Emacs 19.34.
