InfiNet - InterNational Freedom of Information Network

                     Setup Tips and Operation Guidelines

SETTING UP:
-----------

Once your application has been accepted:

1. Obtain your node number, and the node number of your hub/host.

2. Make up a list of which echoes you will be taking for your system. (You
can always add in more later). Keep in mind the four REQUIRED echoes:
INF-GEN, INF-SUGG, INF-SYS and INF-TEST. Aside from those four, the rest
of the InfiNet bases are completely optional.

3. Setup the echoes on your system, both in your bbs software and in your
   mail tosser's area manager.

4. Send a listing of which bases you intend to carry to your hub (via
FrontDoor Netmail or e-mail), along with your node number and information
on your system. Tell him you are all setup.

5. Post ONE test message in INF-TEST. Run your mail tosser (typically
"Tosscan Scan" or "Gecho Scan"), and force poll your hub, verifying that
your front end sent the message. If your hub has already set you up,
you may also receive your first packet of InfiNet messages.

6. If all is working well, next time your system polls your hub, you should
receive a reply saying that someone received your test message. If not,
call your hub and ask for assistance.

7. All done! Welcome to InfiNet! Sit back and watch the messages pour in.

HINTS TIPS STATS AND INFO:
--------------------------

InfiNet is absolutely free. The only cost of membership is any long-
distance charges which may be incurred through polling for messages.

As an InfiNet sysop, you are highly encouraged to advertise for InfiNet
as frequently as possible. There is, however, a maximum limit of FIVE
   SYSTEMS per area code.

If you wish to bring a new system into InfiNet, obtain the file
INFINAPP.TXT. Read the directions in the header of that file, and return
the application to Infinite Darkness, InfiNet World HQ. NO system will
be added into the nodelist until that system has an application on file
   at Infinite Darkness.

InfiNet is fully ANSi compatible. If you have a switch within your
software to enable/disable ansi within each base, set it to On/Enable.

Use of handles on InfiNet is not only encouraged; users who use their
real names may actually find themselves ostracized. Handles are not
solely the domain of the computer underground (piracy and hacking).
A good handle is an extension of your personality - it shows the world
who you are, what you like, and what you are like.

As previously stated, you are free to pick up any bases you like. The
exception to this rule is if you are a hub for an area code, and you are
going to be exporting to systems below you. In a case like this, you
will need to carry ALL of the echoes. However, there is a way to
prevent your having to USE all of the echoes within your system. Within
Tosscan (or possibly whichever other mail tosser you use), there is a
status flag called PASSTHRU, contained within the Area Manager setup for
each and every echo/sub. If you do not wish to carry this sub (on your
bbs), but a node under you DOES, simply set this flag to ON/YES. The
mail tosser will now take all messages for this base and export them
directly to the nodes under you, without tossing them into your message
base. Of course, if you do decide you eventually want to carry this
base, you need only set the Passthru bit to off, and setup the base on
   your system.
