do0d> I've heard of a beige box before, what does it do?

slak> On every house there is a little box near the gas meter
it basically is a phone jack on the outside, all you
need to do is take the cover off and hook up a beige
box to it, and you can call anywhere you want. Of course
it is not free, for them. The bill will go to the
house you are boxing from.

do0d> So, i can dial say, a 1-900 number or maybee my cousin in
Vancouver for free?

slak>      Exactly dude.

do0d> Are there any risks involved?

slak> If you do it in the middle of the day, people will probably
see you depending on how secluded your site is. If someone
is using the phone, and you hook up they might hear you
breathing. Oh and if the phone rings and you are holding
bare wire, you will get a 40 volt shock.

do0d> So i can actually listen to their calls?

slak> You got it. But if you stay on the line, they cant make out
going calls. So for listening in its not too bright an idea.

do0d> This is wicked! so, how do i make one or get one?

slak> Glad you asked, here is a list of what you need,

item                   store                         price
~~~~                   ~~~~~                         ~~~~~
wire          radio shack                   $5.00 a spool
2 aligator clips          radio shack                   $2.00 pack of 8
1 modulator          dollar store or radio shack   $1.00 - $5.00
Step one : Cut the wire into two seperate and equal pieces,
say about 30 centimeters long. Take about 1/2 an
inch of the insulation off of both ends of both
wires.
Step two : Get the two clips and wrap an end of each wire to
each clip. So you have,
clip 1>        V  V   < clip 2
1st piece of wire>  |  |   < 2nd piece of wire
Step three : Now take the modulator, get a screwdriver and pry the
cover off. Loosen the 2 screws with the red and green
wires attached. Wrap the other sides of the wire
around the screws and re-tighten them. like so,
clip 1>        V  V   < clip 2
1st piece of wire>       < 2nd piece of wire
r* g*
r = red wire
g = green wire
b*    y*     b = black wire
y = yellow wire
^^^
plug your phone in here
Step four : Put the cover back on the modulator [ square box thing ]
You now have what is called a beige box.
do0d>   Wow thats pretty simple ! Now that i have it finished how do i
hook it up to someones phone again?
slak>       This part is simple [ "It's so easy, it scares me." - Token ] you
bring your new beige box to a house that is vacant [ look for
"for sale" signs ] or to someones house that you hate. You will
see a small grey box by their gas meter. [note- if you see one
that says "trident" on it, you have the *wrong* one] Yank the
cover up and it will slide off. You will see 4 screws [ 8 if
they have 2 lines ] Connect the alligator clips to the bottom
2 screws. Hear the dial tone?
do0d>   Simple and effective, any tips for the new beige boxer? =)
slak>       Here is a nice number to call, it costs $10 each time you call
it.. so.. umm dont do it from home, unless you are real rich.
It gives you the password to an extender,
1-416-976-3733
and you have probably heard the trick " how to give your
favorite bbs an 800/888 number for nothing? " [ it involves
giving any companies information, a random post box and
other fake id to bell/at&t and saying you need the number
asap, of course you dont tell the sop or *ANYBODY* for that
matter unless you like court rooms ] you can do that and
similar, with extenders, call
(416) 798-8488
for the "Residential flat rate, suburb-to-suburb calling"
for $8.25/month its out bound anywhere in the toronto and
Greater Toronto Area. But $12.25/month inbound AND outbound
so if you live in Ajax [ far east of t.o. ] and i live in
oakville [ far west of t.o ] and you setup the number for
your line ANYONE can call from ANYWHERE in toronto paying
NO LONG DISTANCE CHARGES. AND You can call ANYWHERE in the
G.t.a paying no ld charges either. This is a legal service
folks. And paying nothing for the service makes it even
more fun.
