Fusion Enhanced Device: Schematics and short description

The two essentials are the heavy driver with an inner plutonium shell and the reflector of low-density fusion material. Accelerated to high speed of 10 to 20 km/sec, the driver's impact on the fusion fuel creates an intense compressive shock wave on the plutonium core and initiates fusion activity in the lithium deutride. Although considerable fusion energy is released, its chief purpose is to convert the 17.6 MeV and 3.26 MeV fusion neutrons into plutonium fission's releasing 200 MeV. This weapon can probably be designed so that the plutonium shell goes supercritical as it collapses into the lithium deutride. This would both increase the initial yield and it would begin to expand both inwards and outwards at the same time. The lithium deutride would be effectively trapped between the expanding supercritical core and outer shell for a further boost in the fission-enhanced fusion. The yield is even further boosted by the fissioning U-238.
