Welcome to another issue of the Underground Informer, as always an
eclectic blend of silly and serious. It has been a while since we've reminded
you, so perhaps this is as good a time as any to tell you again that everyone
involved with the UI is a BBS'er. Most of the UI authors write for this
publication for the same reason that many of you post in BBS public message
boards--for the sheer joy and fun of it, to share a personal thought or two,
or simply to entertain fellow BBS'ers. And if you read the UI and think you
might like to write for it on an occasional or regular basis, then drop me a
note at any of the e-mail addresses listed on the last page of this and every
issue. We can promise you at least a bit of online fame--or perhaps more like
notoriety--if your work meets UI publication standards. (Don't let the word
"standards" intimidate you. Almost anything goes at the UI, and we've been
pleasantly surprised over the years to find that most people who are
interested in writing for the UI to the point of actually submitting articles
or stories are also talented enough that their material is published.)

This issue is populated by long-time UI regulars, with thoughtful
commentary from J.L. Seagull and Pagan, entertaining stories from Delta 1 and
StarStorm, plus the regular "Letters to the Editor" and "BBS Happenings"
features.

An alert for any sysops who carry the UI on their boards and pick up
their issues at LV-426 BBS: the board will be off-line as of May 1, 1994, and
possibly sooner. The details are explained in the first news item of the "BBS
Happenings" page. We will miss LV-426, but the sysop expects to bring it back
later as a Macintosh board. Any sysop who has been picking up the UI at LV-
426 can switch to Beyond Eternity BBS in Manhattan Beach or brand-new master
distributor Chatterbox! BBS in Van Nuys, which has just agreed to set up a
special UI section as of this issue date. Please read the last page of this
issue for details.

And now, on to the issue. Enjoy!
