Thanks for taking the time to take a look at PEO.

PEO requires MS Windows 3.1 and will run under MS Windows 95
as a MS Windows 3.1 application.

PEO is shareware. Registration information is included on the
main menu. You may freely distribute peo200.zip.

This is the complete product; but, there is a limit on the
number of trial periods. You may use PEO a total of fifty
times. That's roughly thirty to sixty days of usage if
you're on a project requiring this type of tool.

Furthermore, you may create just one project; but, the project
can contain hundreds of COBOL programs.

INSTALLING.

Create the PEO working directory.

You will have to use File Manager to create a directory
called WINMACHY on the c: drive and copy the unzipped
files to that directory. If you choose a different
directory you must edit the program information files.

The program information (pif) files

The files on the diskette include four program information
files (.pif). You should copy the pif files to the WINDOWS
directory or add c:\WINMACHY to the PATH clause in the
autoexec.bat file. Windows must have access to these files.
The four pif files are:

        wseoexp0.pif
        wseopre0.pif
        peoload.pif
        peoshow.pif.

The pif files tell Windows the location of the executable
files. All four pif files have c:\winmachy as the location
of the executables.

If you choose a different directory you will have to edit
the .pif files accordingly. Use pifedit; if it's not on
your desktop you can run it from File Manager's Run option.
Simply replace c:\winmachy with the correct directory.

Adding PEO to the desktop.

You will also have to add wpeomenu.exe to one of your Windows
groups; or, create a new group. You use the Program Manager
File.New option to add a group. Select Program Group. Then
enter a description of the group and a name for the group
file Windows creates.

You also use the Program Manager File.New option to add a
program item to a group.

Double click on the group icon. Click on the Program Manager
File option and select New. Then select Program Item and
enter

Description PEO
Command Line c:\winmachy\wpeomenu.exe
Working Directory	c:\winmachy
Shortcut Key None

Note: this assumes you use c:\winmachy as the directory.

GETTING STARTED.

Create a project.

Please refer to the Help screens; basically, you need to
create a project by selecting the project menu option. This
option processes all the COBOL source in a single directory.
This step looks for alternate entry points and missing copy
books.

Create view files.

Next, you must create the view files to be loaded into the PEO
screens. This step parses the source code to identify relations.

Load and view COBOL programs.

Finally, you select View.New to load the PEO data bases. Then select
View.Open to view the COBOL programs.

GENERAL INFORMATION.

The files created can be quite large. See the note about deleting
files. The note is under the Hints pulldown menu.

As an example of file sizes: It requires approximately 100meg to
prepare view files (parse) and load the view files for 225,000
lines of COBOL code.
