Utrecht, April 1990. This file accompanies FORMAT v 2.04. FORMAT has the following features: - program and accessory in one; - various formats: - single/double sided - 40/80/81/82/83 tracks - 9/10 sectors - as an accessory it can format disks in the background; - can create MS-DOS compatible disks; - can create immune (virusresistant) disks; - can use an external bootsector file as prototype bootsector; - formats in reversed order; - can format two disks at once. Files: - FORMAT.PRG of FORMAT.ACC - SAVEBOOT.PRG - FORMAT.TXT First thing FORMAT does when executed is try to read the file FORMAT.BT. If available, this file is used as a prototype for the creation of bootsectors. If not available the user can choose between MS-DOS and ST-Immune bootsectors. Disks are always tried to be formatted MS-DOS readable (even if they don't get the MS-DOS bootsector). The utility program SAVEBOOT can save bootsectors to FORMAT.BT; just choose a drive.
