NCC-1701 (MOTION PICTURE VERSION) FIRING PHOTON TORPDOES by Maurice Molyneaux "mini" version with AVS sound ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ TITLE: ANIMATION-- MINITORP.SEQ (a 50% image reduction of the [unreleased] file TORPFIRE.SEQ) SOUND-- PHOTORP2.SPL AVS-- MINITORP.AVS ARTIST: Maurice Molyneaux DATE: 1989, 1990 RIGHTS: This animation may be distributed freely as long as this text accompanies all copies of the animation and the artist's name is not removed from the animation. FILE TYPE: Cyber Paint .SEQ (sequence) file PLAYBACK: ANIMATION ONLY-- Cyber Paint or AnimateX program (Atari ST) Autodesk Animator (IBM PC) WITH SOUND-- AVS Player or TALKIES! programs (ST only). THE ANIMATION This animation depicts the "movie" Enterprise firing photon torpedoes. The file was created when I decided to test my ability to replicate the fiercest-looking torpedo effects seen in any Trek adventure, namely, those ray spraying torpedoes fired by the Klingons in STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE. The torpedoes (two fo them) emerge from the base of the ship's "neck" and come nearly head-on at the camera (passing just to camera right). If you're using an AVS player, play the animation in LOOP mode to get the full effect. NOTE: Playing this animation backwards or in pong-pong mode looks weird as the ship "sucks up" the torpedoes! HOW-TO The animation was created using several programs. The Enterprise was a 3-D model constructed initially in CAD-3D and later "tweaked" in Cyber Sculpt. Light sources were moved alonmg the torpedo paths to cerate interactive lighting. The actual shifting ray effect, while it might seem random, is a carefully designed effect (which I'm not giving away right now). AVS NOTES If you're going to be loading the animation and/or .SPL sound files from any directory path other than the root of drive A, you'll have to edit the MINITORP.AVS file. Load it into a text editor and change the paths for the files to the paths where you will be loading them from. For instance, if you saved the files to a folder on drive D called AVSFILES, you would edit the file from this: TICKS 240 SEQ A:\MINITORP.SEQ 0 2 1 SPL A:\PHOTORP2.SPL 10 4 2 And change it to this: TICKS 240 SEQ D:\AVSFILES\MINITORP.SEQ 0 2 1 SPL D:\AVSFILES\PHOTORP2.SPL 10 4 2 MEMORY The animation itself should load on ANY ST or TT computer provided it has a least 512K of RAM. 512K users may have clear other utilities (desk accessories, etc.) from memory if there is a problem. I think the AVS version should work on a 512K machine, but haven't been able to test the theory yet. I can be contacted on DELPHI by sending mail to MAURICEM.
