>>>>>> QUESTION INPUT PROGRAM <<<<<< ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ FOR USE ONLY WITH BRAIN DAMAGE ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ Coded and Compiled By Dave Cobbledick ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ Copyright ½ 1993 Dunces Cap Software This program was developed in response to a number of requests from customers to be able to enter their own questions into the quiz programs from Dunces Cap Software to further enhance the use of such programs. The instructions for this program will be very brief as much is explained to you as you go through the various stages of using the program with loads of on- screen prompts and directions. The most important fact to remember is that whenever you intend to write out information from a program to a disk - whether from a program like this or just to save High Scores in a game - ALWAYS use a back-up copy and not your original and this way, if anything goes wrong, you will always have your original intact to make another copy from. The other most important thing to remember is that no matter how good any program or how comprehensive the error detection and handling routines you should be prepared for the possibility of a failure happening and losing all data that you have input. To this end, whenever you intend to sit and have a session of inputting questions, always have your questions and answers written down and prepared beforehand. There is nothing more annoying than to lose three or four hours work and have nothing to show for it but a memory. Upon loading and running this program the system will search the directories of the disk you are using. If any files with a DAT extension are found relating to the 'Brain Damage' program you will be prompted for a response. There are two options to choose from: 1] Add data to an existing file 2] Create new files of your own If you select option two the system will ask if you want to proceed with this disk. If yes then ALL DAT files will be renamed with the extension DAX this will allow new files to be written out without losing your old files or causing name conflict errors to occur. This can only be performed 'once' with each disk - that is, only two sets of data can exist relating to questions and answers and words and clues files .. one set with DAT extensions one with DAX. On screen prompts and messages will keep you on course throughout this procedure with simple key presses determining your actions. DO NOT USE YOUR ORIGINAL 'BRAIN DAMAGE' DISK : USE A BACKUP COPY! ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ The only other information you need is that the left hand margins in the Question and answer section should always be kept justified .... e.g. 1] The price of cheese in Denmark is more costly than in the UK? 2] Who sang the song 'Two little boys' and went to number one in 19?? ? The left hand margin is more important than the right as this determines how your questions will be displayed when printed on the screen. Failure to observe this rule may show your questions being displayed in a disjointed and incoherent way. Backspace any spelling mistakes you make and use the spacebar to move the cursor around the screen for aligning purposes. DO NOT press Return/Enter after each line - only at the end of your question and answer. When you have finished your session type in SAVE where you would normally type in a question or clue and the questions and asnwers [ clues and words ] you have input will be saved to disk. MAKE SURE THAT YOUR DISK IS NOT WRITE PROTECTED BEFORE DOING THIS ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ To help you coordinate your questions the colour coding applies as follows: Questions 1 to 100 will appear in RED text Questions 101 to 200 will appear in YELLOW text Questions 201 to 300 will appear in Green text Questions above 300 will appear in Blue text All Clues for the Clues and Words section will appear in BLUE text You have room for five hundred Questions and Answers and 150 Clues and words which means that you can ADD to the existing files supplied with this program. An 'autosave' facility is built-in to the program which will automatically save any files currently being built when and if you reach the FULL status; make sure that you always have your work disk in Drive A: when you are making or adding to a file/s. REMEMBER: ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ Before you begin have all your data in front of you ready written out and all your answers verified.... always check your input before confirming that what you have input is correct; there is no going back once you have confirmed. All answers in the Questions & Answers section MUST NOT be more than eleven characters in length. All words in the Clues and Words section must not be more than eight letters in length and not less than five. Happy typing .... and let Dunces Cap Software see any files that you create with this utility. Best Wishes, Dave Cobbledick
