(c) 1996, MudFlap! Software
Designed and Programmed by Steven W. Mentzer

Overview??

NetScrew is a Windows NT v3.51 compliant utility that allows internet users with dialup accounts or dynamic IP addressing to "upload" their current IP address to any FTP site available.

System Requirements are as follows:

* Some form of Internet Dial-up Connection.
* Windows NT v3.51 workstation (or server)
* Remote Access MUST be installed.
* Read/Write/Execute access on a remote FTP server.

What exactly does NetScrew do?

Imagine this scenario......

You use the internet quite a bit. You like the fact that you can access your home machine via any machine with access to the 'net'. But you have DYNAMIC IP ADDRESSING, which in laymans terms means, that you effectively are different computer on the internet every time you connect. Since your current IP address is bound to change after a disconnect, you will have no way of knowing what your current IP address is when your slick Remote Access installation redials and reconnects and you are on the road to a very important meeting with aunt jezebel.

So, you decide to call your internet provider one day to inquire how much it will cost to have a dedicated modem, just for you. Several hours later you wake up, recovering from the shock of what your provided what going to charge you for a dedicated IP. What did they say? $200.00? $300.00 a month? Tell 'em to BUG OFF!

You have NetScrew!

Netscrew will allow you to upload your current IP address to a predetermined remote FTP site.
What good does this do you? Well , if you have a TEXT file containing your CURRENT IP address
on a remote FTP site, and that file is UPDATED every couple of minutes, you will always know what IP address to FTP or TELNET into just by looking at the text file. Neat, eh?

I thought so.

Setup and Installation

1 - Copy the entire contents of your NETSCREW.ZIP archive to the "%root%\system32\ras" directory.

2- You must enable device logging in the remote access registry. You can do this by following these instructions. If logging is already enabled, ignore this step.

a- go to a DOS prompt and type "REGEDT32" and press <enter>.
	b- select "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
	c- select "SYSTEM"
	d- select "CURRENT_CONTROL_SET"
	e- select "SERVICES"
	f - select "RASMAN"
	g- select "PARAMETERS"
h- double click on "LOGGING" in the MDI window on the right.
i- change the value to "1" and click the "OK" button.
	j- Exit the registry editor.

3- Reboot your computer (this is required to reload the Remote Access Registry Settings).
4- You are finished.

Operation

NetScrew is fairly simple to use. I use the word fairly because I am not the greatest GUI designer of all time. The first thing you need to remember is that you cannot start the processing until you have loaded a configuration file. I have provided a sample configuration file "DEFAULT.CFG" that you may use as a template. All configuration files are stored and loaded with the extension ".CFG".

When you wish to edit this configuration to suit your needs, you need only click on the "Edit" menu
item. You will be able to edit the current configuration. You will see the following edit boxes.

WORKING DIRECTORY - This is the local working directory that ALL files will be
placed in. This is usually %root%\system32\ras.

ADDRESS FILE NAME- This is the name of the file that NetScrew will create and
upload to the remote FTP site. This file contains your
					IP address.

IP ADDRESS/URL- This is the qualified URL name or IP address that the
					file will be uploaded to.

LOGIN_NAME This is the login name to the FTP site.

PASSWORD This is the password for the FTP site.

UPLOAD INTERVAL This is the number of SECONDS between uploads.

As soon as you have configured NetScrew, just click on the "Start Netscrew" button. The
program will begin processing. Go get a cup of coffee. You need it.
