Microsoft Windows NT, Beta October 1992 Problem Printing to Hewlett-Packard DeskJet Printers The Microsoft Windows NT product group has recently identified a printing problem on some systems when printing to Hewlett-Packard DeskJet, DeskJet Plus and DeskJet 500 printers from Windows NT. Error 21 is known to occur when attempting to print unless the printer was powered off when the system was booted. The problem occurs due to a failure on the part of the parallel port driver to reset if the printer is turned on at initialization of Windows NT. If you print to one of the aforementioned printers, you may encounter this problem. If you encounter this problem, please take the following steps to replace the driver as instructed below. We appreciate our customers efforts in reporting problem areas and encourage you to continue working with us to improve the product. If you continue to encounter similar problems please let us know. __________________________________________________________________________ To retrieve the corrected files from the WINNT CompuServe forum: Connect to the WINNT CompuServe forum, Library 2 where you will find WNT003.ZIP. This file was created using the PKZIP file compression utility. You will need the PKUNZIP utility to extract the files to a directory on your hard drive. PKUNZIP can be found as PKZ110.EXE in Library 2 of the IBMCOM forum. Download PKZ110.EXE and execute the file to extract the PKUNZIP.EXE utility. Create a directory on your hard disk where the extracted files can be placed. For example, C:\WNT003. To extract the WNT003.ZIP file, type: PKUNZIP WNT003.ZIP C:\WNT003 to decompress the files into the directory.
