NetModem/32 - 1.0.b2.sL
Copyright 1998 - Dedrick Allen & Allen Software Technologies

Welcome to the second NetModem/32 beta release!

There are a lot of changes. Most of which are internal code changes (non-GUI)
but there are a lot of GUI changes as well. First of all I want to apologize
for beta 1. It was crap :). It wasn't ready for release at all. The only reason
I released it was because people kept begging to see something.

Unless you hear from me that development is dead, then I am constantly working
on new versions. Development is in full swing so its a LONG way from being
dead, so don't get all bent outta shape. I have school to maintain so I dont
have a lot of time nor a team of programmers to help out. I am still looking
for a full time job, so if anyone is looking for a full time Delphi programmer
and is in the region of Chattanooga, Tennessee, send me some email.

I have worked even harder on this release to fix all the bugs and
incompatiblities - see the WhatsNew.TXT. If you notice anything, bugs,
incompatiblity with software then send me EMail (drip@cris.com) immediatly.
Alot of times I can fix the problem and give you a private version that will
get you running until I release the next public version. Also the web pages
have changed. You can use any of the following sites to reach the NetModem
page.

    http://www.cris.com/~drip (primary site)
    http://netmodem.home.ml.org (primary site)
http://bxm170.rh.psu.edu/netmodem (mirror site) <- See "NOTE"
http://www.personal.psu.edu/bxm170/netmodem (mirror site) <- See "NOTE"

NOTE: The two psu.edu sites won't be available until 1-11-98. So
please use the primary sites until 1-11-98.

If any of these pages are down or gone, the http://www.cris.com/~drip page
will ALWAYS be up and active, so if you have any problems with the others
be sure you go to http://www.cris.com/~drip

These web pages are designed and maintained by a good friend, Billy Ma; most of
you know him as the co-author of the Illusion BBS software. Don't email him
asking questions about NetModem because he will probably ignore them and either
delete them or forward them to me. But he will take questions related to
Illusion and NetModem if it focuses more on the Illusion end. He also does web
design, and as you can tell by the NetModem/32 page, he is VERY good at it.
Also check out his page at http://www.personal.psu.edu/bxm170. And he may even
be available for custom web page design, but he's not free! :)

BTW - NetModem/NT is in development for all you NT fans. Hopefully it is
      possible.

Quick Install...

Ok, first you want to remove ALL old NetModem/32 files. If you use NetModem/16
and you have NetFOSSIL loaded in your AUTOEXEC.BAT remove it. Next you want
to configure your Comports in the NetModem/32 Config. The next thing you do
is configure your BBS software to the correct comport for your telnet node.
You do NOT tell NetModem/32 or your BBS software the comport of your real modem.
You tell it a comport you do NOT have, like com5, so it can emulate a TCP/IP
modem on it via FOSSIL. If you run NetModem/32 on ethernet TCP/IP connection
then you configure it the same way. Also be sure to set your BBS software to
use FOSSIL comms (FOSSIL driver) and if it asks for a hex/base address to the
comport just put anything. You do NOT need to use another FOSSIL driver such
as ADF, X00 or BNU on the telnet comport. NetModem/32 has a 32bit FOSSIL driver
built in named NetFOSSIL/32. You only use ADF, X00, or BNU etc.. on your regular
 dial-up modem to modem comports.

Be sure to use the following init strings when configuring your modem.

NetModem/32 Modem commands...

  ATZ - Reset

ATH0 - Hang Up (Go on hook)

  ATH1 - Go off hook

  ATA - Answer incoming call

  ATE1 - Echo on

  ATE0 - Echo off

ATBLAHDIJDEIOFE - Will return "OK" but does nothing

FILE TRANSFERS! - Uploads are enabled in the shareware version, but downloads
are only in the registered version. If your BBS software does not have internal
protocols then you need to get FDSZ (FOSSIL-DSZ) or CE-XYZ or some other type
of FOSSIL protocol.

NO MORE FREEWARE! - I know a lot of people won't like this one. I am still
working on multinode versions, so when they are ready I will let you all
know, but here are the registration prices for NetModem/32:

  1 Node - $20
  2 Nodes - $25
  4 Nodes - $35
  8 Nodes - $45
  16 Nodes - $60 (If possible)

See Register.Txt for registration information.
