---------------------------------------------------

Included In This Package
---------------------------------------------------

* 3D Dreams for Director v1.1 Evaluation Edition
* 3D Dreams demo movies (as .DIR files + resources)
      * Cars R' Us
      * Stonehenge
      * Colliding Cars

Important:
---------------------------------------------------

It is recommended to uninstall previous versions of
3D Dreams before installing this version.

This can be accomplished using "Add/Remove Programs"
in the the Windows Control Panel.

Evaluation Edition Limitations:
---------------------------------------------------
The evaluation edition is FULLY FUNCTIONAL and is
feature-wise identical to the commercial edition.
After a predefined period of use, you will encounter
a delay each time you start 3D Dreams. The program
will remain fully functional.

This evaluation edition may be used for up to 30 days.
If you intend to keep using 3D Dreams, please purchase
the retail version. See "Pricing Information" (below)
for details.

The retail edition of 3D Dreams includes 2,500 3D
models to get you started. The models, in Microsoft
X format, can be imported directly into 3D Dreams.
They were created by the professionals at Viewpoint
DataLabs, which specializes in creating 3D models for
real-time applications. We're sure you'll find
these royalty free models very useful for fast initial
production.

Movies saved with the evaluation edition will pop
up a notification message when played with the
3D Dreams player (the run-time Xtra). This message
notifies the user that the movie was created with
the Evaluation Edition of 3D Dreams. The user must
press "OK" to start viewing the movie.

If you purchase the retail edition, you can simply
load the movie and save it again to prevent the
pop-up message from appearing.

What's new in v1.1 (since v1.0):
---------------------------------------------------

* Significant speedup in 3D rendering, up to 200%
  improvement.
* Textures and backgrounds can now be changed
on-the-fly during movie play. The new Lingo
command setTexture3d sets a Director cast member
  as a texture for a 3D object.
* In iterative movement, the step frequency
can now be changed from the default of 10.
* Several render modes are now available:
  high-speed software, high-quality software,
  hardware accelerated and automatic. These
can be set in the asset properties window
  or via Lingo.
* New fill mode: points only, in addition to
  solid and wireframe.
* Fill modes can now be changed via Lingo.
* The Universe inspector now has an Interactive
page, where you can set a Lingo variable to
refer to the universe. The old method
(getUniverse3d) can still be used to generate
  a universe variable.
* Immediate movement no longer issues collision3d
events. See Chapter 8 in the manual for details.
* New Lingo commands for checking collisions in
  immediate movement.
* Field of View now defaults to 45, and can be
changed per camera. Also, viewport aspect
ratio is now correctly preserved, even when
  resized.
* New Lingo handlers report the loading status
  of the 3D data.
* Color of primitives and backgrounds can now be
  changed using Lingo.
* Backgrounds are now unlimited in size.
* New lingo commands:
  - hasCollided3d and lastObstacle3d
  - setStepFreq3d and getStepFreq3d
  - setFill3d and getFill3d
  - setColor3d and getColor3d
  - setRenderMode3d and getRenderMode3d
  - setTexture3d
  - update3d
  - downloadComplete3d
  - mediaReady3d
* Fixed problems with some of the newer 3D
  acceleration cards.
* Various minor bug-fixes and overall increased
  stability.

Known issues:
---------------------------------------------------

* If the render mode is set to #hardware and no
hardware support is available, there is automatic
fallback to #highSpeedSoftware. However, with some
unsupported 3D acceleration cards, the fallback
detection may fail with unpredictable results. If
this happens to you, please e-mail us the details
of your 3D accelerator and DirectX drivers. The
next version of 3D Dreams will combine better
detection with a built-in database of known cards.
* In the media editor, once an object is set as
transparent, making it non-transparent is reflected
in the viewport only after a movie rewind. This is
  a DirectX limitation.
* When moving an existing viewport cast member to
another location in the cast while it has a sprite
on the stage, some resources are not freed and keep
occupying memory until Director is closed. This bug
exists in Director 5.00 through 6.02.
* With some 3D accelerators, texture transparency is
not supported in #hardware mode, and transparent
  pixels appear black.

If you encounter any problem not mentioned above,
please contact us (see details below).

manual may contain relevant information.
