=============================== README.TXT ================================= Welcome to disc 2 of the February, 1996 edition of the Walnut Creek CICA for MS Windows CDROM! This disc set contains 1300 MB of Microsoft Windows programs. It includes hundreds of utilities, games, fonts, bitmaps, and more, all written especially for Windows. The disc is based on the CICA Windows collection from Indiana University. Most of the files on the disc are in zip format. ============================================================================= Here is a list of some important files and directories: 00_index.txt An index of subject directories 00global.txt A list of all files with descriptions - English 00global.spa A list of all files with descriptions - Spanish 00global.ger A list of all files with descriptions - German 00global.ita A list of all files with descriptions - Italian 00global.fre A list of all files with descriptions - French setup.exe Windows SETUP program view.exe DOS file viewer for the index files (See DOCS\VIEW.DOC) (You have to use this to see the multi-lingual descriptions) filename.txt List of all of the files on the CDROM docs\ Documentation Files utils\ Utilities for unzipping files. vbrun\ VBRUN100.DLL, VBRUN200.DLL, VBRUN300.DLL _bbs\ Index files and programs for bbs use. ============================================================================== To use this disc, you will need to unarchive the compressed programs on the CDROM to your hard disk. To make browsing the disk easier, we have included the WINVIEW program for Windows and VIEW for MSDOS in the root directory of the CDROM. This program allows you to page through the index files and then unarchive the program(s) you want onto your hard disk. ============================================================================== INSTALLATION: Although the WINVIEW and VIEW programs require no installation (as they can run directly off of the disc), you can install the programs onto your hard drive using the SETUP program. To run the installation: 1) Start up Windows 2) Choose RUN from the Program Manager File menu to see the RUN dialog box. 3) In the command line box, type D:\setup (If the D: drive is not your CDROM drive, change it to the appropriate CDROM drive letter.) 4) Click OK to start the installation. ============================================================================== To install a program you uncompressed onto your hard drive from the CDROM so it displays an icon in your applications group, you can do one of two things: 1) First select Windows Setup in the Main Group. Then select Options in the menu bar. Select Set Up Applications. Select Ask You to Specify An Application. Type the path and name of the program you'd like to install. Windows setup will copy the program's icon into the Application Group and set up the program to run from the icon. For example, to make an permanent icon for boxworld after copying it with VIEW you would type: c:\win3\games\boxworld\boxworld.exe into the "Specify An Application" box. 2) Start up File Manager, then locate the executable program (which usually ends in .EXE or .COM) you wish to install. Drag that program icon to your Applications program group inside your Program Manager window, then release the mouse button. The icon will now be in your Applications window, and the program can now be run from that icon. ============================================================================== Some applications require vbrun100.dll, vbrun200.dll, or vbrun300.dll. These files are provided in the the VBRUN\ directory of the CDROM. ============================================================================== Disclaimer: This CDROM comes with a full money back guarantee.
