C I C A D I R

Introduction
------------

        This is *NOT* a Windows application.  Instead, this is a DOS application
which helps you to manipulate the master index file at CICA.  If you don't know
what I am talking about (for example, you don't know what CICA is), this program
will be *TOTALLY USELESS* for you.

        I assume you are familiar with basic DOS operation when you are reading
this document.  If you can't understand any part of this document (for example,
you don't know how to create a directory), get an experienced friend before
running CICADIR.

Installation
------------

        1. Create a directory (for example, C:\CICADIR).

        2. Copy CICADIR.EXE into to the directory.

        3. Download two files, "INDEX" and "ls-ltR".  You can find them in the
           root directory for Windows (/pub/pc/win3) at CICA.
           (see *IMPORTANT NOTES* below)

           You *MUST* have "INDEX" so that CICADIR can create the index and
           data files for you.  However, "ls-ltR" is optional.  If you
           have "ls-ltR", CICADIR can add the size field for each file.

        4. Copy the two files (INDEX and ls-ltR) into the CICADIR directory.

        5. Now, go to CICADIR directory and run CICADIR.  You will get a
           full-screen and easy to view CICA index.

           If you download new "INDEX" and "ls-ltR" in the future, just repeat
           step 3, 4 and 5.  CICADIR will automatically create new master
           index files for you.


*IMPORTANT NOTES*
-----------------

        1. "INDEX" and "ls-ltR" are plain text files.  All you have to do is
           to download them and copy them to the CICADIR directory.  DO NOT
           TRY TO USE YOUR WORD PROCESSOR TO EDIT OR CHANGE THEIR CONTENTS!!

        2. Since CICADIR will detect the existence of "INDEX" to determine
           whether the master index files should be re-created or not, CICADIR
           will *DELETE* "INDEX" and "ls-ltR" after it creates the master
           index files.  If you want to keep a copy, you can copy them to
           another directory before you run CICADIR.


Usage
-----

        By pressing F1, CICADIR will pop up a help screen for you.  Everything
is there, I don't want to waste too many characters here.
