Does this software require VBRUN100.DLL? A. Yes! If you don't have it, the BBS or shareware house you got PA 5.0 from should have it! Q. So... What's New with 5.0? A. Everything! Sharper interface, toolbox, flexible inventory pages, easier batch printing, a new character set sheet, improved layouts for the other specimen sheets, TrueType support, user definable text strings, footers, headers, two new view windows, & more! Q. Why did 5.0 take so long? A. February, March, April, and May were quite hectic with graduation from school, and trying to find a job.... Thanks to all who held on for this release! Q. How do I install this program real quick? A. 1) Create a new directory for Printer's Apprentice 2) Place the contents of this ZIP file into the directory 3) Add the directory to your PATH statement in the AUTOEXEC.BAT *This is a MUST!* 4) Reboot your machine, start Windows, add PA to a Program Manager Group, double click and go! Q. How do I remove the program if I need more space on my machine? A. 1) Remove the contents of your PA directory 2) Remove the PA directory 3) Remove the PA.INI file from your Windows directory 4) Remove the Printer's Apprentice icon from your Program Manager groups. Q. What happened to the documentation file? A. Everything has been placed in a Windows help file. Just click the Help menu item or the question mark icons... Q. Is this program still shareware? A. Yes! Yes! Yes! This software has been in development for a long time... Please take the time to compensate the author. Send a check for $20 ($25 foreign) payable to Bryan T. Kinkel at the above address. Q. What's coming in Version 6.0? A. Even more control over the inventory sheets, more general purpose specimen sheets, more interface improvments, speed, speed, speed! Q. What is the upgrade policy? A. When you register, I will send you a code and a certificate. Upon release of major upgrades, I will notify you with a post card. The cost of duplication and mailing has gotten out of hand, so upgrades will cost a nominal $5 if you need a new diskette. Or you can wait to find the program on a local BBS. The codeword will always work for future editions. Q. Anything else? A. Yes! I am always open to suggestions! This software is made for anyone who cares about type. Designers, DTPers, layout artists, print shops, publishers, etc, this sofware is for you. If you have any suggestions, spec sheet ideas, interface notes, let me know. 75% of the improvements in this release came from users. This is your program! It is easiest to reach me at home, after 7pm EST. Files list: ---------------- PA.EXE - Place anywhere (\PA recommended) PA.HLP - Place anywhere on PATH (\PA recommended) PACONTRL.EXE - Place anywhere on PATH (\PA recommended) README.TXT - Read it! ENUMFONT.DLL - Place anywhere on PATH (\PA recommended) SS3D.VBX - Place anywhere on path (\PA recommended) SS3D2.VBX - Place anywhere on path (\PA recommended) GRID.VBX - Place anywhere on path (\PA recommended) 3DLABEL.VBX - Place anywhere on path (\PA recommended) Note: PA makes several calls to the above VBX's, DLL's, and the PACONTRL.EXE (the Printer's Apprentice control panel). In order for PA to run, these files must be on your path. Rather than littering your \windows & \windows\system dir with stray DLL/VBX files, create a new dir for PA and place all the files in one dir. Then add \PA to your PATH statement. As Jim Seymour at PC Magazine notes, uninstalling Windows programs is a pain. Printer's Apprentice is INI friendly, it does not touch your SYSTEM.INI or WIN.INI. It only creates its own PA.INI in the Windows dir. Q. What other software has Lose Your Mind Software produced? A. Look for .WAVHello 1.0, a quick and dirty .WAV and .MID player. Use it alone or in concert with the Windows 3.1 File Manager, just drag and drop! WAVHELLO.ZIP ---> Look for it on your favorite BBS!
