                   Using the program Periodic

Periodic Table with information for every element. A
scrambled periodic table can be created and unscrambled when
given clues regarding the scrambled elements. Designed for
chemistry students of various levels. Entertaining and
educational.

Installing Periodic on your hard drive.
Start windows95/98 and click on Start in the lower left hand
corner. Click on Run then type and enter A:\install.
If the source files are in a different drive then substitute the
drive\path for A:\. Install will copy the program files to your
hard drive, create a Program Group for Periodic, and create the
appropriate icons.

Using Periodic:
To obtain information regarding any element click the right
mouse button on the element.

From the Periodic Table menu a copy of the periodic table can
be printed by selecting Print, the elements scrambled by selecting
Scramble Elements, or the program exited by selecting Exit(Alt-x).

When the elements are scrambled a periodic table will appear
containing question marks. Before the scrambled chart appears the
user will be asked if a new scrambled chart or an existing one is
desired. Select Yes for a new one, No to retrieve and old one.
If an saved one is desired Select the file from the File Open Dialog
box that appears. To obtain a clue regarding an element click the
right mouse button on the question mark. The question mark can
then be dragged by depressing the left mouse button, dragging
the mark to the spot on the table where the element belongs, and
releasing the left mouse button. If the location of the element is
correct the user is notified and the element information displayed
on the table.

The puzzle can be unscrambled by selecting UnScramble Elements
from the Periodic Table Menu. The scrambled location of the element
is indicated by Src(Source) and the actual location of the element is
represented by a flashing question mark. The name of the element and
information concerning the element is displayed on the bottom of the
screen. To stop the unscrambling process click on Pause and to restart
click on Continue. To exit the scrambled puzzle completely select
Display UnScrambled Chart from the Periodic Table Menu. The user will
be asked if it is desired to save the current scrambled chart to disk.
If so select Yes and enter the name of the file.

Help is available at any time during the program by choosing
Index from the Help menu. If you do not know how to use Windows
