1. What is iCal?
-----------------

iCal is a web-based calendar that can be used to show meetings,
events, or other schedules. Your calendars can be viewed, edited,
and administered totally through the web. iCal is build for
thin-clients, so you access your calendar without any plug-ins
  or java interpreters.

iCal is a new type of application; built exclusively for the web.
The program comes with a built in web server that allows
for immediate access by anyone running a web browser.

2. What is new in 2.4?
----------------------

Version 2.4 offers a few improvements to the Periodic Event.

    a. There is now an option to the Periodic Event to generate daily
events from the periodic description. This effectively
allows for exceptions to the recurring description. Imagine
a staff meeting that is held every Wednesday. Generating this
event into daily events would allow you to adjust those weeks
where the meeting gets pushed to Thursday.

    b. It allows repeat by year.

3. Installation
----------------

    ZIP file Install:
If you have downloaded a ZIP, or self extracting archive from an online
service you will need to unpack the files to a temporary directory. Run
Add/Remove Programs for the Control Panel. Use Browse to locate the
    Setup program.

The Setup program properly installs iCal v 2.4 into the
Windows 95/98 and NT Registry. This allows you to use the Uninstall
feature to remove all traces of the program. This will not remove any
calendar files you may have created.

4. Getting Started
---------------------
After installing iCal 2.4 here are the quick steps needed to demonstrate
  the program.

  a. Run iCal (from the program group created during install)

  b. Bring up your web browser

  c. From your web browser enter the location: http://localhost for the
Netsite or Address to be opened.

These steps should bring up the iCal online Tutorial. From here you
can learn about the powerful feature of iCal and begin creating your own
calendars for personal use or for serving on your Intranet or even the
  Internet.

.... By Golly if you can perform the steps above, we think you
  will be very impressed!

5. Troubleshooting
---------------------

If you are unable to see the tutorial or your calendar through your
browser, here are some things to check:

On some computers with dial-up access to the Internet, you
may get no response when you type in the URL http://localhost.
Should this happen, try first connecting to the Internet, and
then re-trying the above URL. This quite often occurs with IE 3.02.

If you have an existing web server (such as Microsoft IIS Server)
running on your computer, you will have to change the Port setting
in iCal's Listener tab. Try using a higher number such as 85 or 86.
Then, in your browser, you will need to type in: http://localhost:86
(or change the 86 to match what you typed for iCal's port number)

If you are in an Intranet that uses a proxy server you will
likely need to make some settings to your browser. The method
for doing this varies depending on your browser.

For Netscape Communicator 4.x you would
    1) Select Edit/preferences from the menu
    2) click advanced
    3) click on Proxies
    4) The Manual Proxy configuration will check. Click on the
       view... button.
    5) In the "Exceptions" add the IP address of your machine,
or the remote machine if iCal is running on another system.

  For IE4.x you would
    1) Select view/Internet Options... from the menu
    2) click the Connection Tab
    3) Under Proxy Server click the Advanced button
    4) In the "Exceptions" add the IP address of your machine,
or the remote machine if iCal is running on another system.
