ReadMe file for Fletmail V. 1.03 - Odense, Denmark May 10. 1999

Please visit http://panchop.hypermart.net for updates.

FletMail is a mail client for sending individual mails to any number of receipients. By inserting tags in a template mail the user can define words or phrases that will be exchanged in the final mails according to a database of receipients.

This program is designed to run using Win95. I have not tested it using Win98, but I have received reports that it will work in this environment too. I am pretty sure that it won't work on a machine running Win3.xx though.

FletMail is Freeware which means that you are allowed to redistribute the program as long as long as you distribute the full archive.
These files must always be present:

FletMail.exe - The executable
FletMail.ini - Initialization file used by FletMail
FletMail.hlp - Normal Windows help file
FletMail.cnt - Contents for help file
ReadMe.txt - This file
instructions.txt - Short instructions on how to use FletMail
MailEx.txt - An example of a mail file
DBFieldsEx.txt - An example of a field file
DBaseEx.txt - An example of a database file

This program is not intended to be used for sending unsolicited email (spam). Although I am aware that it can be used for this purpose I don't think that spammers would have much use for mail-merging capabilities. Also I do not in any way intend to feel responsible for how this program is used.

If you have comments or suggestions or if you find any bugs you are most welcome to send me a mail. I can not promise that I will answer all mails - but I will try to do my best. :-)

Updates will probably occur on a regular basis. If you want to be notified of major updates then send me a small note by email.

The program was written using "Delphi 3.0 Standard".

"ICS - Internet Component Suite" - a Delphi package created by Franois Piette was also used. A lot of thanks go to FPiette for this invaluable tool.

I would also like to thank all those who helped me with the beta tests. Especially the "Welcome" guys and gals - and a certain pirate hunter by the name van_rapp.

History:

Changes from 1.02 to 1.03

I finally got around to add some icons to the toolbar.

Changes from 1.01 to 1.02

This release includes a windows help file.

Changes from 1.0 to 1.01:

V1.0 had a serious bug that gave problems on certain servers. This should be fixed now.

Changes from 0.32 to 1.0:

Corrected the timezone bias to account for daylight saving time.

Changes from 0.31 to 0.32:

When making a new database, the program will now automatically add 'name' and 'email' fields.

Fixed a bug that made the program hang in certain circumstances when selecting recipients.

Implemented the 'remove' button from the database editor.

When loading a database new fields will be added to match the size of the database.

In the database editor it is not possible to change field names anymore when updating fields.

Made some general resizing and redesigning of the graphical layout.

Changes to values in the 'email' and 'name' fields in the database editor, will now have proper effect.

Changes from 0.3 to 0.31:

Cursor changes to 'busy' when using 'open', 'preview' and 'select' commands. This seems to speed up the process too.

The '<<-' and '<-' buttons have been implemented.

Added an indicator ('*') to the 'available' Listbox to show the selected items.

The controls in the main window now resizes according to the size of the window.

The 'From' and 'To' text boxes are initialized to their default values, when a mail without header info is loaded.

Known bugs and limitations:

Selecting another receipient in 'preview' mode will not change the information in the edit box. Press the 'preview' button twice to update the letter.

When a connection is cancelled by the user an exception will occur. After this happens it is not possible to connect. Restart the program to fix this situation.

FletMail does not automatically save files. It doesn't remind you about files that aren't saved either. You should manually save any files before exiting the program.
