1.0 A Brief Description:
 ------------------------------
Dcat Screen Saver is a simple to use screen saver that allows you to set which directory the
images are loaded from and the length of time that the images are displayed for. A feature of the
screen saver is that images are over laid on top of one another rather than blanking the screen in
between each displayed image. The program is ideally suited for displaying images that you have
scanned or just a collection of your favorite images.

5.0 Compatibility:
----------------------------
Dcat Screen Saver is fully compatible with Windows 95/98.

6.0 Installation & Removal:
----------------------------------------
There are two methods of installation the first (6.1) applies if your copy of DcatScreenSaver came
with the Setup file. The second (6.2) is if your copy does not have the Setup File and Visual Basic
5.0 runtime files.

6.1 Method One - Install using Setup:
----------------------------------------------------
To install the DcatScreenSaver program you will need to Run the Setup program. To do this you
can either click Start, click Run then browse to find the Setup file or right click start, click
explore then use the explorer to find the Setup file and then double click the Setup file.
NOTE: If you have an archived copy (ie with the extension zip) then you can either extract the
files then follow the above or Run Setup from within the archive.
The installation requires you to enter a directory for the program. The only file that is placed in
here is the uninstall log used to uninstall the program. Three other programs will be added to your
system these being two help files (hlp & gid) to c:\windows\help and the third, the actual
program DcatScreenSaver to c:\windows. Also Visual Basic runtimes files MAY be added to
c:\windows\system if you do not have any of the required runtime files

6.1.1 Method One - Uninstall / Removal:
-----------------------------------------------------
To uninstall go Start\Settings\Control Panel and double click Add / Remove Programs
Select Dcat Screen Saver then click the Add /Remove button.

6.2 Method Two - Install Copy without Visual Basic runtime files:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If your copy does not have the Visual Basic 5.0 runtimes files then all you need to do to install
the program is to copy the DcatScreenSaver.scr file to c:\windows and copy the files
DcatScreenSaver.gid and DcatScreenSaver.hlp to c:\windows\help.
NOTE: If you have an archived copy (ie with the extension zip) then you must extract the files
then follow the above.

6.2.1 Method Two - Uninstall / Removal:
---------------------------------------------------
To remove DcatScreenSaver from your system, simply delete the files that you copied to your
system.

6.3 Removing Registry Entries:
--------------------------------------------
Dcat Screen Saver also creates entries for the password etc in the registry, these will have to be
removed manually by using a registry editor such as REGEDIT found in the C:\Windows
Directory. The location of Dcat Screen Saver entries in the registry are at mycoumpter
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Vb and Vba program Settings. (Note: Dcat Screen Saver
must have run at least once for any registry entries to be made.)

7.0 Visual Basic runtime files:
------------------------------------------
If after installation the program does not run then you may require the Visual Basic runtime files.
The runtime files are available from various source and internet sites. One of which is listed below

 URL: http://www.simtel.net/simtel.net/win95/dll.html

8.0 The Program:
----------------------
This section contains some basic information about Dcat Screen Saver.

8.1 Resolutions:
------------------------
The program is compatible with all screen resolutions but only the 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768
resolutions have all the possible transitions available and only then if the images being displayed
are the same size as the screen resolution.

8.2 Colour Palette:
---------------------------
To get the best results set your colour palette to High Colour (16 bit) or True Colour (32 bit) and
use images saved in 256 colours or less.

8.3 Loading Images:
-----------------------------
You can select any directory that has valid images in it. To set the directory right click on the
desktop and select properties then in the display properties window click on the Screen Saver tab.
Select DcatScreenSaver in the Screen Saver control if it has not already been selected then click
on settings. Click browse in the setup window then select the directory that you want the program
to get images from. You can create your own directory and keep all your favorite images in it.

8.4 Image Sizes:
------------------------
It is best to use images that match your screen resolution but if Dcat Screen Saver encounters an
image not the same as the current screen resolution then the program will enlarge or compress the
image to fit. This may result in some distortion of the displayed image if there is a big difference
between the image size and screen resolution. Note that the full range of transitions are not
available for images that don't match the screen resolution. Ie if your screen resolution is 800 x
600 then use images 800 x 600.
