  ABOUT 1st IMPRESSION
-----------------------------------------------------------------

1st Impression automatically replaces Windows startup and
shut down logos each time you restart your system. This
version comes with a small collection of logo images, but you
can download more from our web site. The best thing is that
you can ADD YOUR OWN IMAGES, including those downloaded from
the Internet, and set custom startup, shut down and turn off
messages. 1st Impression turns system restart procedure into
  a fun.

This software is year 2000 ready (Y2K compliant).

  USER INSTRUCTIONS
-----------------------------------------------------------------

After installing 1st Impression find it in a program group and
start at least once. This will turn on automatic logo changing
at Windows startup so you don't have to shuffle them manually.
1st Impression offeres you the following functions:

"Add" - To set an image as a logo you must first add it to
the list. Just click this button and select desired files in
some of the many supported formats. You can add more than one
file by using CTRL or SHIFT when selecting files.

"Set" - Sets the selected image as a logo (you can choose
the position). If automatic logo changing is turned on, this
logo will last only till the next restart after which will be
  replaced by another one.

"Shuffle" - Sets random logos at the moment you click the
button. This is useful if automatic logo changing is OFF and
  you wish change logos.

"Delete" - Will try to delete currently selected file.
You can select more than one file for deletion by putting the
check mark next to its name. If no file is selected program
will asked if you want to delete them *ALL*. You must confirm
this twice because deleted logos are not in Recycle Bin and
  cannot be restored.

"Options" - A dialog opens where you can define your shut
down and turn off messages. Each line represents a separate
message that is selected randomly when setting a logo. You
can click "Defaults" to restore initial messages. Below you
can choose how to resize newly added images: "Fill the screen"
which in many cases means that image might be cropped a bit,
or you can choose "Show entire image" which in most cases adds
black borders to fix the aspect ratio. The check box below
turns automatic logo changing on or off. Read more about
"System folders" button in "FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS"
section. Read more about "Restore original logos" button in
  "UNINSTALLATION" section.

"About" - Shows this file. Here you can find copyright
information, credits, help, how to contact authors, etc.

    "Exit" - Exits the program.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
  UNINSTALLATION
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Before installing any new version of 1st Impression it is
recommended to uninstall the previous version.

Before uninstalling, start 1st Impression, click "Options",
click "Restore original logos" and confirm with "Yes". This
will restore original logos that were there before installing
1st Impression. Also, you must close the "Options" dialog by
  clicking "Accept".

Then uninstall as usual in Windows by clicking Add/Remove
programs or by running Uninstall procedure from 1st Impression
  folder.

  FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Q: Why the startup logo never changes although shut down and
   turn off logos do?

A: You may have installed Windows on a compressed partition
(e.g. drive D:) and 1st Impression puts the logo in a wrong
folder. To correct the problem follow these steps:
   (1) Start 1st Impression from its program group
   (2) Click "Options"
   (3) Click "System folders"
   (4) In "Startup logo folder" edit box enter the root folder
of the host drive (e.g. if it now writes "D:\" your host
       drive root is probably "C:\")
   (5) Click "Accept" and again "Accept" to close the previous
       dialog
   (6) Click "Shuffle" to test-drive the logo changer
   (7) Restart your computer and see if you have a new startup
logo. If not then in the step (4) you entered the wrong
drive letter, so repeat the procedure and correct it.

Please make sure you don't change "Logos warehouse folder"
because that is where 1st Impression adds and searches for
the images and where gallery installations extract new logos.

Q: I forgot to restore the original logos before I uninstalled
1st Impresion. How to restore them now?

A: If you used version 1.10 or later the procedure is simple,
just go to "\Windows\Logos.bak" backup folder and start the
"RESTORE.BAT" batch file. If you used older version then
   you must do it manually:
   (1) Find the "logos.bak" folder in your Windows folder -
there should be two or three files in it.
   (2) Copy files "logos.sys" and "logow.sys" to your Windows
       folder (overwrite existing files).
   (3) If the file "logo.sys" exists then copy it to your root
folder (e.g. "C:\"), and if it doesn't exist then delete
it from your root folder too. That's all.

*****

Q: How can I add images from the previous versions of the
   program to the current collection?

A: You can download additional galleries for 1st Impression from
our site. These galleries are easy installable (a single EXE
file). To make new version use logos that YOU ADDED just add
them again using new version of 1st Impression. We promise
you will not have to repeat this procedure on the next upgrade.
