Thank you for choosing Personal QuoteSpy!

Personal QuoteSpy 2.0 (PQS2 hereafter) is an integrated package
of an Excel 97 Add-in program and a set of PQS2 workbooks. The
purpose of this tool is to provide an easy-to-use interface
for non-professionals tracking and analyzing stock changes with
virtually no cost at home. This document includes:

---------------------------------------------------------------
1. Introduction

The major features of PQS2 are the follows:

1) Realtime Multi-Quote and Multi-list Stock Monitor
Unlike PQS v1.6 keeps a multi-quote list in a workbook and
save different quote lists in different workbooks, PQS2 keeps
a multi-quote list in a spreadsheet and keeps all different quote
lists in a single workbook -- Personal QuoteSpy v2.0. This
significantly reduces files that you have to create and increases
the efficiency and reliability of the program. You can update a
quote or the whole list within the active sheet. You can also setup
a timer automatically and periodically to do so. To switch to
another quote list simply activate it by clicking its tab in the
workbook. The operations on different quote lists are totally
separated and will not affect each other.

2) Color Indicator
Same as those in PQS v1.6, the symbol of a stock in a quote list
is colored to indicate the quality of the stock (red is a hot stock
and blue is a cool stock) and the color will change in responding
to the update and a pre-setup moving average line. The last price
of a stock is colored as an alert status responding to the pre-setup
ceiling and floor prices. The bid price and the ask price of a stock
are also colored indicating whether they are a safe selling price
or a safe buying price separately (red is a safe selling price while
blue is a safe buying price).

3) News Mark
In an update process, the news of the tracked stocks will be
marked with their latest pressed dates on the active sheet in
the monitor workbook. These pressed date fields are also
hyperlinks to the news web site. By a single click, you can
view the news related to any stock through your major Web
browser (e.g., Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape 3.0).

4) Smart Data Manager
Similar as PQS v1.6, PQS2 automatically downloads and merges
free realtime data and free historical data for a tracked quote into
a single local data file (Excel format). The historical data is
downloaded through Microsoft web browser control when you first time
create the record. Then, the data record file will be updated by
appending the realtime data to it day-by-day. If the data file is
older than two business days for any reason, it will be re-downloaded
from the historical data server. The data record files of all the
quotes in the same quote list will be grouped and saved under a
directory with a name as same as that of the quote list (i.e., the
sheet name in the monitor workbook).

5) Free Data Gateway
Same as PQS v1.6, PQS2 also provides an instant data sheet (for
registered users only) that has integrated the realtime data with
the historical data of the currently updated quote. It is always
ready to be linked to your own spread sheets or charts or to any
professional financial or analytical applications. This datagate
sheet is located in the "Technical Charts" workbook.

6) Technical Chart Group
PQS2 revises all the charts of PQS v1.6 and adds in multi-
moving-average, candlestick, buying-selling comparison,
and cash flow charts. The total number of grahpic lines or
bars is thus increased from 9 to 14. The most significant
difference of PQS2 charts from those of PQS v1.6 is that
all chart graphics are scalable (for registered users only).
Thus, PQS2 charts provides much richer information for investors.

7) Factor Sheet
PQS2 re-selects or calculates 15 realtime critical indexes to
reflect the quality, status, and moving trend of the current
updated quote. All these 15 indexes are arranged on a
separated factor sheet. They are designed or selected
particularly for short-term or mid-term analysis, especially
for predicting the next turning point of a stock price. For
seeing more fundamental factors or indexes, you can visit
the web page of the current updated stock on the realtime
quote site by clicking the news mark (hyperlink) of the quote
in the quote list of the PQS2 monitor workbook.

8) Intraday Update Memo
This is a new feature of PQS2. PQS2 records every update
you made within a day. For each record, it demonstrates the
latest trade at or before that moment. It includes trading time,
bid price, ask price, trading price, and the number of shares
traded. If you update your quote list regularly, you can get an
intraday pattern about the bid price, ask price and trading
shares for each trade. PQS2 also keeps the memo of
yesterday's intraday trading pattern. Comparing these two
days trading patterns will help you to grasp the today's best
bid and the today's best ask. It also provides useful reference
for judging the activity and the psychological status of the
tracked stock.

9) Portfolio Manager
Same as PQS v1.6, PQS2 provides an intuitive and ready-
to-use portfolio sheet that is actually a starting base to
extend the PQS2 functionality by taking the full power of
Excel. You can modify this portfolio sheet in any way that
you like.

10) Customizable Layout & Trigger Procedures
PQS2 revises the setup form as follows:

(1) It allows you to modify the URL address of either data
server site, therefore, you can response to the address
    changes in the future;
(2) It allows you to setup your local market open time,
close time and merging time interval in order to response
to the difference of local time zone and the future changes
    of market trading time. And,
(3) It allows you to hide any PQS2 workbook (except the
monitor) when PQS2 initiates. So, you can save some
screen space for your own workbooks linked to PQS2.
(4) It allows you to specify your own procedures that will be
triggered after PQS2 is loaded or after a quote is updated
or both. In this way, you can link your own automation to
    the PQS2 automation.

2. Perparation

Before you use Personal QuoteSpy, please check the following
things:

1) System Requirement

Any system that can properly run Excel 97 and Internet
Explorer 4.0 will be OK. 2.4MB disk space for the
application and installation files. Additional disk space
is required for PQS2 historical data files, proportional to
the number of symbols tracked.

An active Internet connection with a 32-bit Winsock is required.

2) Software or Components Required

(1) Windows 95/98
(2) Excel 97
(3) Internet Explorer 4.0
(4) VB6 run-time engine (It can be downloaded from many web sites.)

3) Online username and password

PQS2 uses public data on two web sites: one is
http://quotes.freerealtime.com/rt/frt/quotes for
realtime data and news; the other is
http://www.financialweb.com/stocktools/history.asp
for historical data. The first one requires registration (but free).
A member will have his/her own username and password. If you
have not registered on this web site, please do it right away,
since your username and password are required to connect to the
realtime data site when you run PQS2. The steps to register on the
realtime data server are follows:

(1) Launch your web browser;
(2) Type in http://freerealtime.com in the URL address bar;
(3) Click "free registration" hyperlink;
(4) Fill in the online registration form;
(5) Create your own ID (i.e., username) and password;
(6) Before you submit, print the registration form and write
down your username and password for documentation purpose;
(7) submit and check all the agreement boxes. You have done.
(8) Login your account and verify the result.

3. Installation

PQS2 is delivered as a winzip file PQSetup2.zip with an executable
file, Setup.exe inside. Download the zip file to a temporary place
and unzip it. Follow the screen instruction to complete the
installation.

In the setup procedure, the setup program will create
C:\Program files\PQS2 directory by default or the directory
that you specified. Excel Add-in program file pqs2.xla,
PQS2 workbooks, and help files will be stored in this directory.

To start PQS2, open pqs2.xla in Excel or run PQS2 from the
Windows 95/98 Start Menu(Start/Programs/PQS2/Personal QuoteSpy).

To close PQS2, close the Personal QuoteSpy v2.0 (i.e., the
monitor workbook) in Excel or quit Excel. The program will
automatically save all your works.

To uninstall PQS2, from Windows 95/98 control panel, double
click the add/remove programs icon, then remove the program
following the screen instruction.

4. Configuration

The first time you start PQS2 in Excel 97, Excel will display a
dialog box warning you "the program include some macros, do you
want to enable/disable them." Choose "Enable," then press "OK."

You can turn this feature off because Excel 97 macro virus
warning feature actually does nothing but displays a warning
dialog box. PQS2 had been scanned by the latest anti-virus
program before it was uploaded. When it was uploaded on the
download center, the web server also scanned it. You may scan it
with your own anti-virus program before you use it.

When you open a PQS2 workbook, your Excel 97 may display another
dialog box to ask you whether you want to update links or not.
Ignore this dialog box by click any button. You may turn this
feature off from the top menu (Tools/Options/Edit, then uncheck
the "ask to update automatic links" box).

After you pass the above two steps, PQS2 will do three things:

1) Check the registration status. If you have not registered, a
field will appear for you to enter your registration number.

2) Check if the online username and password have been setup.
If not (this is true when you first time run PQS2 program). A
message box will appear to remind you. Follows that, the setup
dialog box appears. Enter your online username and password in
proper fields. Remember, the username and the password are case
sensitive.

One more thing you may have to check out. PQS2 is setup for
operating in US Eastern Time Zone. If your computer system time
(i.e., your local time zone) is different from US Eastern Time.
Please fill in your local stock market open-time and close-time in
proper fields on the setup form.

After fill in username, password, and the time information,
press "OK." Later in PQS2, you can change this setting by
clicking "Setup" icon on the toolbar.

After you registered, you can also configure PQS2 layout and
trigger procedures. Please refer to help file for details.

3) The program will check Internet connection. If the connection
is bad, a message box will appear. Otherwise, the program will
be ready to use.

When the PQS2 program is ready, PQS2 toolbar will appear at the
top with the Excel's toolbars. Like other Excel toolbars, PQS2
toolbar is movable and duckable. You can place it anywhere on
the Excel window. At the first time, the toolbar position may
not be proper. You can change it. Then, it will stay at the new
position forever unless you change it again.

5. Getting Started

PQS2 provides two sample quote lists. One of them is blank.
You can start to create your own quote list by modifying either
sample quote list.

If you have known what stock symbols that you want to track, then

Step 1: Type in (or replace the old symbols with) your stock
symbols one-by-one in the first column of the realtime
monitor sheet (in the top workbook).
Step 2: Update quote information by clicking "Update A Record"
        icon on the PQS2 toolbar.

If you do not know any stock symbol yet, there are some online stock screen programs available for you to choose stocks. For example, you can try stocktools.com web site and use its super stock screen to choose some stock symbols. The steps are:
(1) type in http://www.financialweb.com/stocktools/query.asp in your
          browser's URL address bar
(2) fill in criteria that you are interested in
(3) click "get the result" button to submit
(4) choose some stock symbols from the query result and type them into
          the quote list of PQS2.

After you click "Update A Record" icon on the PQS2 toolbar, the new PQS2
quote list subdirectory will be create for saving historical files.
Please refer to PQS2 help file.

When you quit PQS2, the quote list will be saved automatically. The best
way to create additional quote lists is to copy old ones and replace
the old data with a new one. This will save you a lot of format job.
