Words Flash v1.5 by Shamil Nizamov (c) 1998

Section 1 Introduction
-------------------------------

Thank you for trying Words Flash. This program is the fruition of
several of hours of work and was created because I wanted a kanji
flashcard program that allows me to memorize words at the same time
I'm working with computer. Similar flashcard programs cost US$100
or more and usually not afford to buy them.If you have any comments,
you can contact me at sheen@ufanet.ru

This program is a SUPPLEMENTAL learning tool and should not be the
primary way one learns new kanji. By my opinion a great result will
be if you learn several kanji tonight and repeat it using this
program whole next day.

Section 2 Freeware
--------------------------------

You are free to use this program without charge. However, I
recommend you to register a program. Your registration will
encourage me to provide improved versions of this program and
create new ones.

Section 3 Compatibility
-------------------------------

The program uses the same file format as Jim Breen's free Edict
English-Japanese dictionary file. Unfortunately I do not know what
type of char set they using and how to convert it into Shift-JIS.
So you can use included dictionary files or use new one after
convertation. It's easy using wide known Japanese support text
editors.

Section 4 Installation
-------------------------------

First of all extract program in appropriate directory. After
unziping wordsfj.zip you should see the following files:

  wordsj.exe - main executable file
  wordj.hlp - help file
  words.sjs - dictionary file
kata.sjs - katakana and hiragana dictionary file
  readme.txt - this file
  register.txt - simple registration file

Setcion 4.1 Installing Fonts

If your computer does NOT already have at least one Japanese
scalable font (such as True-Type) installed, then you will need to
find and install one. Good way is trying Microsoft's Japanese
multilanguage extention fot Internet Explorer. It includes Japanese
Gothic font (MS Gothic). You can find it in the Internet Explorer
download page at http://www.microsoft.com/ie/download.

Setction 6 Running the Program
-------------------------------

Simple execute wordsj.exe file. First time Help file will appear.
I tried to describe all important things there. To terminate the
program select "Exit" item from popup menu. All necessary changes
will be stored automatically.
I tested this program under MS Windows 95/98/NT4.0 both on English
and Russian edition. Some features with 95,98 read below.

Section 7 Creating Flashcards dictionary
-------------------------------

To create a new dictionary file you need a Japanese word processor
capable of saving files Shift-JIS formats such as NJ Star or JWP.
Check some ftp sites with Nihongo stuff, both of them and many
other useful programs must to be there. Anyway dictionary file
format must be the same as EDICT. It means:

  word itself [pronunciation] /translation/translation/

  For example:
  Y- ['<''] /pretty/clean/nice/tidy/
  k- ['''] /minute/fine/elaborate/delicate/accurate/

Gaps before and after brackets are required.

Section 8 Known bugs
-------------------------------
Flash effect don't work correctly under Windows95/98.It's features
of this OSes wide char support implementation. I hope it's nothing
for memorize words. With Windows NT everything is Ok.
