Limitations of the Shareware Version

The freely distributable shareware version of UPDATE has a number of limitations compared to the registered version that you get upon buying UPDATE. These are all restrictions on the UPDATE program itself (UPDATE.EXE).
  • the shareware version displays a message saying that this is the shareware version at startup. The program then pauses for 2 seconds before performing the actual command(s).
  • the shareware version restricts the number of versions of an archive to 5.
  • the shareware version cannot delete a version of an archive (Update Configurator can of course delete the archive with all its versions.).
  • To avoid these restrictions and to have UPDATE display your name at startup you have to buy the registered version.

The archive format and the format of the information kept by Update Configurator is of course the same in the shareware and the registered version of UPDATE.
