Update Configurator handles the creation of archives and groups, and the configuration
parameters of archives, groups and workstations.
Archives
An archive holds a copy of the files and directories of a workstations
harddisk. This copy resides in a directory on the servers disk
and is created and
maintained by the DOS program UPDATE under the control of Update Configurator.
In the configuration database of Update Configurator
information about this directory and some options used when updating
from or to the archive is stored.
Groups
Groups only exist within Update Configurator and its configuration
database. They are used to hold information that
would otherwise have to be entered and maintained individually for a number
of workstations. It is possible to specify a set of files/directories to
ignore for a group, and commands to perform before a put operation or
after a get operation. Groups can also point to a specific archive version.
Workstations
Update Configurator maintains information about the individual settings for each
workstation that has been configured.
