1. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS/INSTALLATION

System Requirements:

	Windows 95/NT4
	32 bit Winsock connection

Installation:

Run setup.exe from the files contained in the terra22.zip file or on the
distribution CD. The setup program will guide you through all the necessary
steps to install Terrapin FTP Browser 2.2.

2. QUICK START

2.1 Viewing Site Maps

Terrapin FTP comes with a few example Site Maps to illustrate the concept.
To view a Terrapin Site Map select Server ....Open from the menu or click
the icon for the toolbar short cut.

Try selecting gutenburg.svr. Once opened you can navigate the site in the
same way you view files on you local computer using Windows Explorer.

All folders that are yellow form part of the Site Map and can be broswed
off-line. To view the contents of grey folders you will need to be connected
to the Internet. Once a grey folder is opened it turns yellow and can then
be viewed again off-line as part of the Site Map.

The Gutenburg server contains a host of electronic literature. If this is
of interest the file path is /pub/etext/gutenburg/ In the folders etext90
to 97 you will find everything from JFK's Inaugural Address to the works
of Shakespeare. The index files have already been applied so you can see
a description of the file contents.

Note that the examples may have been created some time ago and the
catalogues will not have been refreshed. Some files and folders may not
still exist or the site may have been restructured. Refresh the folders
if you want to be sure.

2.2 Connecting to a New Server

Select Server ....New Connection from the menu or click the icon for
the tool bar short cut.

The New Connection dialog will appear. Simply type in the ftp URL
(Uniform Resource Locator) of the server you wish to connect to.

The default login uses the 'anonymous' standard. The anonymous login is
well established and there are a tremendous amount of servers throughout
the Internet that offer this facility (e.g. the Gutenberg server above)

If you want to connect to a server that has restricted access you will
need to type in the correct name and password. This could be to upload
your web page to your ISP's server for example and they will provide the
user name and password which allows you to login.

Once you have connected and browsed a server, Terrapin FTP will prompt
you to 'Save Changes' when you exit. Clicking the save option will create
a Terrapin Site Map which you can then browse off-line whenever you wish.

3. KEY FEATURES OF TERRAPIN FTP BROWSER V2.2
Work Off-line. Whenever you visit an FTP site, information is collected
on the directory structure and files held on that computer. If you save
the site map then your next visit is off-line. Note: site maps hold
information about directories and files - not the files themselves. If
you retrieve a file from a site map then the transition between working
off-line and on-line is seamless.

Drag and Drop Files. Drag and drop just as you do in Windows Explorer.
Many files can be transferred in one operation. If you are working
off-line then Terrapin FTP Browser will attempt to connect.

View Files As They Are Downloaded. Files can be viewed as they are
downloaded. Not what you want ? Then cancel the transfer. Double click
the view window to expand and save the file if you want to keep it.

Restart Failed Transfers. If a file transfer failed (and the remote
computer supports restarts) then restart the transfer from the point
of failure.

Archie Search. Search the Internet for a file. There are a number of
alternative options available once the search has been performed e.g.
Get File, drag drop results to window, save results, add new search
results to old without duplication etc.

Tag Files for Download. Tag many files for download across many
directories. Get them all in one on-line transaction.

Retrieve and Launch. By default double clicking a file will download
it and launch its associated Windows program. Files which you have
already downloaded will be launched directly from your hard disk without
needing to connect.

Local File Indicators. To help navigation of your Server Site Maps,
when a file is retrieved, a Local Indicator icon is displayed next to the
file icon. The icons also indicate if the file on the remote computer
is newer than the one held locally..

Co-operation with your Web Browser. If you drag an FTP URL to the Terrapin
FTP from your Web browser, Terrapin FTP Browser will connect to that site
and go straight to the relevant directory. Use Terrapin FTP Browser v2 to
download files - its quicker, can be restarted, and there may be something
else on that computer which interests you.

Record your actions off-line and play back. Want to get many files from
many computers and refresh a few directories in one on-line transaction.
Terrapin FTP Browser allows you to record most actions which can be done
on-line and play back. Macros can be edited and sophisticated program
control logic added. Macros are saved and be re-used again and again.
