This is the first release of PcRadio, a program for control various FM/AM adapters.
The version number is 1.0-15.08.1998. I have added the date (dd.mm.aaaa) because it's
much simpler compare the version of the distribution of PcRadio that you have installed
onto your computer with the version of the distribution that you can found on my web pages.

Actually PcRadio support the following adapters:

    Manufacurer Model Band Connect to
    --------------------------------------------------
    Reveal RA300 FM I/O port
Aims Lab Radiotrack FM I/O port
Zoltrix RadioPlus 108 FM I/O port
    Justy RadionMaru FM/FMJ Serial port
    Unit Rajikoma FM/FMJ/AM Serial port

When you run for the first time PcRadio, you will go in the configuration section: enter
carefully the model of the radio card installed in your computer and select the correct I/O
address of the card. The port proposed by the configuration utility is the factory setting:
if you haven't changed the jumpers on you FM/AM adapter this address should be OK. If you
don't know the I/O address, read carefully the user manual of your radio card or ask to the
manufacturer: if you enter an incorrect address port PcRadio will not function properly and
you should damage your computer and/or loss data!!!! :-(

Some adapters are compatible (see the list below): in order to help inexperienced users to
configure correctly PcRadio (we aren't all radio cards experts or developers!), I have
listed all the models supported by PcRadio.
Here the compatibility list:

                  Equivalent to

==WORKS IN PROGRESS========================================================================
1. Support for Radiotrack II from Aimslab
2. Multilingual support
3. Translating in Italian user manual and help
4. At the end of this month I will begin to find in Rome a computer reseller that
can sell to me a WinTV with FM radio.

==HISTORY==================================================================================
1.10 19.Sep.1998 Added support for Aztech (aka Packard-Bell (aka CompExpress)) FM radio
                  card. Added the scanner function.
The "Start/Close" section in the configuration was renamed to "General"
(in this section I have added two parameters: "show the main form of
PcRadio when firing a dialog box" and "setting doble-click speed on the
tray icon"). Enhanced the "Radio card" section in cfg: now you can set
the refresh time of the flag Stereo/Mono/Tuned; added in the same section
a setting for set the radio signal strenght (this slider will be active
only for radio card capable of detect the signal strenght, eg. Radiotrack
II). Added a function for change on the fly the signal strenght (see
manual). Fixed a bug that seem raise only in Windows 98 (I haven't
experienced this "bug" in Win95/NT): when you fire a dialog box with
PcRadio shrinked to the tray and you attempt to close this dialog box,
                  PcRadio freeze.
1.01 10.Sep.1998 Fixed some visualization problems in PcRadio: these bugs appears only
when you have choosen a character size not equal to minimum (the default)
in the tab settings of the screen properties.
1.00 15.Aug.1998 First release.

==SPECIAL NOTES FOR WINDOWS NT USERS=======================================================
PcRadio uses direct access for perform I/O operation. In WindowsNT, that kind of access
to hardware is not alloved without a driver. The driver is giveio.sys; this file is copied
during the installation of PcRadio.
Giveio.sys has been floating around the net since '96, authored by Dale Roberts in
conjunction with a May 96 Dr Dobbs article. You should find the complete packages with
source on the ftp server of Dr Dobbs (ftp://ftp.ddj.com), I don't remember in which
directory.

In order for PcRadio to gain access to the radio card under NT, the driver giveio.sys must
be loaded before running PcRadio!
The utility "IO_DriverManager" supplied with PcRadio should install and start a copy of
the I/O driver manager (giveio.sys). I have tested this utility on a copuple of computers
running Windows NT and seems do its work correctly without problems.
But can happen that this utility don't make its work. In this case you must attempt to
install the driver manually using the files stored in the directory [APP]\NT (where [APP]
is the directory where you have installed PcRadio).

To install giveio.sys manually you must perform these operations:

1. Logon with Administrator privileges
2. Copy the file giveio.sys to the \WinNT\System32\drivers\ directory.
(The actual directory may vary depending on the directory where Windows NT is installed)
3. Use the following command at the system prompt to install the driver: Example:
           instdrv giveio c:\winnt\system32\drivers\giveio.sys
Note: The instdrv utility is included with PcRadio. After executing the command you
should get some success related load messages. The driver should now be loaded.
4. Open the "Devices" applet inside control panel. Scroll down until you find the giveio
driver in the list. Change the StartUp mode to "Boot" if you want the driver loaded when
your system boots. Else you will have to load it each time you boot your system.
5. Run the testio.exe program to test the driver installation. This program come with
giveio.sys. If all goes well, you will hear some tones being played through your system
speaker. If you don't hear anything here are a few things to check:
     a. Make sure the driver is loaded by performing step 3 above.
If the driver isn't in the list, try reloading it using the instdrv.exe program.
     b. Make sure your PC speaker works. Verify that your mixer settings are correct, ie
you don't have the line-in device muted if you are redirecting the output of the
radio card into your sound card.
     c. If all else fails, E-Mail me (mpucci@kagi.com) for assistance.
6. Execute PcRadio. If the driver is loaded, you should hear your radio card.
If the driver is not loaded, you will get a dialog box with an error message.
Recheck your driver installation. If your system hangs, you probably have a conflict
with the I/O port address of the radio card. Try changing it to the other setting.

The giveio.sys driver can be removed by using the instdrv.exe program.
For syntax of the command, launch instdrv with no arguments.
Please consider that these files are installed with PcRadio: if you uninstall PcRadio these
files will be lost and you will can't uninstall giveio.sys. You must, uninstall giveio.sys
prior to uninstall PcRadio.
