----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. WHAT IS DUBIT?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome! DubIt is a multimedia tool which lets you easily add audio
to movie clips and images. Unlike video editors and presentation
authoring products, DubIt adds audio in real-time as you watch the
movie or image. With DubIt, it is easy to narrate a video clip and
synchronize your voice with the video. DubIt is the perfect tool to
quickly add voice annotation and sound effects to a movie or image.

DubIt uses a familiar VCR-style "Media Player" interface that anyone
can use. There is no complicated setup or long learning curve with
DubIt. Simply open a movie or image and hit the record button.
Just because DubIt is small and simple does not mean it is not
  powerful.

  DubIt includes the following features:

o DubIt can add audio to the following file types: AVI, BMP, GIF,
and JPG. Also, DubIt can add audio to any image copied to the
     Windows clipboard.

o DubIt creates a standard AVI movie file that can be played
on most Windows systems without any special software.

o DubIt allows you to record from the microphone or insert a WAV
audio file anywhere in your movie sound track.

o You can add/modify/delete the movie sound track anywhere, any
number of times, with instant playback, until you are happy with
     the result.

o DubIt allows you to select the audio format to control the
quality of your sound track and the size of the movie file.

o DubIt allows you to "extend" the length of a movie or image to
hold a sound track of any length. And, DubIt can optimize the
extended video to make the movie file size as small as
     possible.

o DubIt performs absolutely no video re-compression. So your
video quality is always preserved and audio editing is fast.

o DubIt lets you select the movie size created for still image
annotation. Options include the original image size, a standard
movie size, or any specified movie width and height.

o DubIt gives you full control over the movie playback size while
you are adding audio. Full screen size movies can be played
     without any resizing.

o DubIt is nicely integrated with SnagIt, TechSmith's premier
screen capture tool. If you need to grab a picture or movie of
anything on your screen and then browse your images or movies
with a thumbnail browser, you need SnagIt! In SnagIt's Catalog
Browser, select Add Audio from the File menu to add audio using
     DubIt.

Here are a few ways you can use DubIt to make your media talk!

o Add emotion to images from your digital camera or scanner by
adding voice, music, or sound effects with DubIt.

o Create online training movie clips with voice narration. DubIt
is perfect for explaining something while showing a movie or
picture of an application or process.

o Submit help-desk problem reports with voice annotation. For
example, hit the PrintScrn key to grab a picture of your screen,
then explain what is going on with DubIt.

o Annotate images, screen captures, movies with absolutely no
typing or image markup tools. For screen capture, simply hit
the PrintScrn key and then use Edit->Paste Image in DubIt. Or
even better, use TechSmith's SnagIt screen capture tool which
     is fully integrated with DubIt.

o Send the movies created by DubIt as an e-mail attachment or put
     it on your web page.

o Easily add narration to a video clip or image with DubIt and then
add it to a larger production using your video editor or
     presentation authoring package.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
2. DUBIT SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In order to run DubIt, your system must meet these specifications:

requirements for your version of Microsoft Windows.

o Windows NT 3.51 (or higher), Windows 95, or Windows 98 installed
     and configured on your system.

o A mouse or other pointing device

o A Windows supported sound card for audio playback and recording
     from a microphone.

o The standard Windows multimedia system software. Basically, if
you can play AVI movies and WAV audio files, you should be able
to use DubIt to perform audio editing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
4. WHAT'S NEW
----------------------------------------------------------------------
4.1 Version history

  v1.0.0 Initial release.

4.2 Undocumented Features too new to be added to the On-line help.

    o None.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
5. KNOWN PROBLEMS OR LIMITATIONS
----------------------------------------------------------------------
o DubIt currently only supports uncompressed "PCM" audio in the
AVI movie files it reads or creates. However, DubIt can insert
compressed WAV audio files into a movie as uncompressed audio.

If you really want to compress the movie created by DubIt, we
recommend using the free "RealEncoder" from RealNetworks.
The RealEncoder is available on the web at http://www.real.com.
Many Windows systems either have the RealNetworks RealPlayer or
a Microsoft MediaPlayer which can play the RealMedia files
       created by RealEncoder.

o DubIt cannot open "progressive JPEG" image files. Progressive
JPEG files are often used on the web, since they appear to load
more quickly in a web browser.
