GOOD STUFF TECHNOLOGIES, INC.
Featuring "Compress it! Professional Image Compression Software
Version 1.0 Developed for Windows '95, Windows '98, and Windows NT (versions 4.0 or higher)

INTRODUCTION

COMPRESS IT! is an Easy-to-Use Compression Program which enables single-file or batch
compression of popular image file types (i.e.,.tif,.gif,.bmp,.jpg,.pcx,.tga, etc.). Users are able to select DPI,
color depth, image size and compressor type* (i.e.,LZW, CCITT-Level 3 and 4, JPEG, COMPRESS IT!,
PKZIP,JBIG,MPEG, and others). It is an ideal utility for web developers, graphic artists, archivists,
and many others who want to reduce the size of their graphic files.

This shareware version of the popular COMPRESS IT! program is a LITE version and does
not feature full functionality or all of the compressors available. Also, this shareware version
is only good for 50 sample compressions. When this amount is reached, you will be
asked to register the program. To obtain the full version of the COMPRESS IT! Software program
complete with manuals, all of the compressor plug-ins available, warranty, multiple site
licenses, etc., contact Good Stuff Technologies, Inc.

This shareware program features COMPRESS IT! which is a high quality compression algorthim
related to the family of JPEG compressors. There are many other popular compression schemes
available to the user on the Compression Palette such as CCITT-Level 3 and Level 4, and Standard JPEG.

*Other compressors such as LZW, PKZIP, JBIG and others are available as plug-ins at an extra cost
after the program is registered due to licensing requirements and their associated fees.

HOW TO USE "COMPRESS IT!"

The software is simple to use. Simply use "BROWSE" to select the file to be
compressed, "ADD" it to the compression window, then click on "COMPRESS".
When this occurs, a special Compression Palette will appear. From this
palette, simply select the desired DPI setting, color depth, size, and
compression type and scalable setting. Then click on "COMPRESS" again
and the program will ask you to name the file extension and destination
for the finished file. Once this done, click "O.K" and the program will
automatically compress the desired file(s).

One of the biggest features of the COMPRESS IT! program is its
capability to batch compress a large number of files. To accomplish this,
simply select all the files you want to compress in the source window by holding
down the SHIFT key when making your selections or simply click on ALL,
then transfer the files to the destination window of the program by
clicking on ADD. If you wish to remove one or more of the files, simply
select the file(s) you wish to add, then click on REMOVE and the files
will be removed from the destination window.

It is recommended that when compressing a large number of files, one should try
a "test" compression and check the results. If the compression settings
are too high, the image will contain a large number of "artifacts" and
begin "pixelating." When this occurs, move the slide bar to a lower
setting. Once the desired results are obtained, then batch processing of
images can occur.

If any compressors are "greyed out," this simply means you did not
select the proper color depth setting or that you do not have the the necessary
plug-in to support these compressors.

MORE COMPRESSION TIPS:

Keep in mind, this shareware version of COMPRESS IT! is only a minimum version
of the program intended for demonstration purposes only. As a result, many file types cannot
be read or compressed with this version. For example, uncompressed TIF images are no problem
to read and compress. However, TIF images which have been compressed with LZW, or GIF images
compressed in the same manner, cannot usually be read by the program because the LZW/GIF
plug-in from Good Stuff Technologies, Inc. has not been installed.

Licensing requirements from Unisys Corporation who owns the patent on the LZW/GIF
compressors requires that this function be turned off until the licensing fee has been paid to them.

The same situation is involved with reading PDF files used by Adobe's Acrobat program.
PDF files use a proprietary version of LZW compression which they developed before
selling the patent rights to Unisys Corporation. Presently, a Plug-in is being developed
which will allow a user to read a PDF file and convert it to a more common format.

Other tips to remember when using COMPRESS IT! is the standard JPEG compressor
available on the compression palette will create a standard JPEG which can be viewed with
Microsoft Explorer or Netscape Browser or many other JPEG compatible viewers.

When compressing with COMPRESS IT!, keep in mind this is a proprietary
compressor and therefore may not be opened with standard image viewers. In order to view
the COMPRESS IT! image, simply double-click on the image while it is still in the COMPRESS IT! program.
Otherwise, a special viewer plug-ins are available for custom applications.

When compressing images, changes in color depth have an impact on a
compressor's ability to compress an image. If a compressor error occurs,
try changing the color depth.

Keep in mind, it is easier to change DPI setting downward rather than upward.
The high the DPI setting the larger the file will be.

If file economy is important, try reducing the size of the image to be
compressed. Usually a 40-60% reduction in the size will significantly reduce the file size.

Finally, practise make perfect. So, make alot of tests and make alot of
comparisons. If you have any questions, send us an E-Mail!

NOTE: THIS VERSION OF COMPRESS IT! IS ONLY GOOD FOR 50 TRIAL COMPRESSIONS.
TO OBTAIN FULL FUNCTIONALITY OF THIS SOFTWARE, IT MUST BE REGISTERED.
