This version of "FastnerPak" contains the Mechanical Desktop (MDT) file
"BHSHCS.DWG" For "Button Head Socket Hex Cap Screw" which is the ANSI
designation for this type of fastener. It is linked to the EXCEL file of the same name
"BHSHCS.XLS". This is a FREE* demo of the full Machine Design
"FastnerPak" software package which contains all the common types and sizes of
fastener components used in typical Machine, Fixture and Vehicle design and build projects
both in INCH and METRIC sizes.
MAKE A BACK-UP COPY OF THE DOWNLOADED "ZIP" FILE AND STORE IN A SAFE PLACE.
TO LOAD THE DRAWING FILE:
1)From within Mechanical Desktop, choose "FILE OPEN"
2)Find "BHSHCS.DWG" in the "D:\DRAWINGS\FASTENERS\INCH" directory or
whatever directory was chosen when the drawing was extracted from the zip file.
3)Double-click to load the file. A default size and length of the fastener is shown. To
choose another size or length: a) On the main (top) menu choose "PART" then
"DESIGN VARIABLES". The dialog box shows the current values for the default size
and length. Choose "UPDATE LINK", after a short delay, the values are visible
from the EXCEL file link when the down arrow is chosen. For example, the item #10-175
refers to this fastener, size #10, 1.75 (or 1-3/4) inches long under the head. Choose
"OK" and the values will update to the chosen item and the part will be redrawn
with the chosen values.
4) NOTE: This application was created while the "DESIGNSPACE" software
menu was installed for Mechanical Desktop. If you do not have this installed, a dialog box
may display when the file loads to "show proxy graphics"? Choose OK. To suppress
this notice for the future, type "PROXYNOTICE" at the command line. Choose
"0" as the default value, then this notice will be suppressed.
5)The drawing is a fully parametric 3D solid model of the fastener. 2D and section views
can be automatically created in paper space and the 2D views can be exported as a 2D
drawing. The model can also be "exploded" and saved as a 3D AutoCAD 14 or 13
solid object in the same manner as any MDT object.
6)To insert the fastener into an assembly drawing, it is recommended to first save the
desired item into another file using the "SAVE AS" option. Use a descriptive
name such as "BHSHCS_10_175.dwg" in a separate project directory for the project
that you are working on. If you want to change the size or length later, you can
re-establish the link with the EXCEL spreadsheet as before.
