RELEASE NOTES

This is the third shareware release of the MiniFold macro.

Version 1.0 was released November 5, 1997. It was written in
WordBasic and worked with MS Word 6.x and 7.x only.

Version 1.97 was converted to Visual Basic and edited to work with
MS Word 97 only. Users of Word 6.x or 7.x need to use Version 1.0.
To avoid confusion with the earlier release, the template file for
Version 1.97 is named "MiniFold97.dot". (Released January 4, 1998)

Version 2.97 is in response to numerous requests to modify my macro
to create 1/2-page sized booklets. A new Step 1 has been added to the
MiniFold Booklet Helper Dialog to allow the user to select either a
1/2-Size or 1/4-Size MiniFold booklet. (Completed November 20, 1998)

REASON FOR WRITING MACRO

I got the idea for this macro from using "booklet" and "paper
saver" programs I downloaded over the years and from commercial
programs such as ClickBook. Most of the freeware and shareware
programs printed eight pages or more per sheet of paper, but they did
so in sequential order vice booklet order. There was no way to cut
and fold the output from these programs into a useable booklet.
ClickBook, while an excellent program, did much more than I needed
and was priced accordingly. I didn't want to pay $50 for thirty
different options when I was only interested in one or two.

I searched the net for programs or macros that would do what I
wanted, but the closest I found was a macro on the Microsoft homepage
that printed half-sized booklets. That macro was called the
FormatFoldOverBooklet macro. Since I wanted booklets that were
quarter-page sized and would fit in a pocket, I modified the
FormatFoldOverBooklet macro and added a new page numbering section to
create the FormatMiniFoldOverBooklet macro (MiniFold).

NOTE: The FormatFoldOverBooklet macro was removed from
the Microsoft website with the release of Office 97. It
was written in WordBasic and did not work with Word 97.

The MiniFold user can vary the paper size and orientation to create
a wide variety of booklet styles. For instance, selecting a 1/4-Size
booklet using 11"x17" paper in Portrait mode creates an interesting
pamphlet measuring 8.5" tall and 5.5" wide. The macro will also handle
small Word graphics, so it is possible to create some unique cards.

KNOWN BUGS

Most of the bug reports so far have been from people trying to run
Version 1.0 of the MiniFold macro with Word 97. Version 1.97 was
created to solve these problems.

Other bug reports have been from people outside the United States
trying to run the macro with foreign versions of Word. I try to
address each problem as best I can, but I do not have the resources
(ie, foreign versions of Word) to do more than guess. If anyone comes
up with any foreign fixes, please let me know so I can pass them on.

REPORTING BUGS

If anyone finds a bug, or thinks of a way to improve the MiniFold 97
macro, please let me know.

COPY PROTECTION

I know some people hide their macros and post dire warnings
concerning decompiling and the like. If I did this for a living I
might do the same, but I don't. Instead, I want people to enjoy
using this macro and to modify it to suit their own preferences if
they want. For that reason, the macro is not copy protected in any
way. If you want to dig into the code, feel free. And if you create
something really unique and interesting, please send me a copy!

SHAREWARE FEE

If you find the MiniFold macro useful, please send me $1 for my
efforts. I spent about a week writing, modifying and trouble-
shooting the original macro to make it as easy to use as possible.
This last revision took about the same amount of time. If $1 is too
much, please consider sending me a postcard from your hometown instead.

This shareware program is freely distributable.

Thanks!
