You have found the Graphic File Search application for MSAccess97.

The Graphic File Search(GFS) is an application for MSAccess97. It allows users to create their own graphic file search, sort, and view application to meet their particular needs. It does not require that the user have any knowledge of MSAccess97 in order to set up their own application. When completed the application will locate any graphic image located anywhere on the users computer. It will display those images based on a set of Categories and Criteria which the user defines. It will also perform a text based search of the description field of those images.

By allowing the user to choose their own definitions the application becomes a valuable tool for anyone who has many image files on their computer. This could be a publisher who might have images from several issues archived in many different directories. When a need arises to locate a particular image, the GFS application brings it up immediately. The search categories can be set up so that a series of images may be found using a single search. This series could then be stepped through, showing each as a thumbnail. Filenames, Titles, Descriptions, and each of the relevent descriptive Categories and Criteria are also shown. A further search could then be made of this set of images using the text search.

A collector could set up a catalog of their collection. With description, prices, dates, and locations of acquisition.

The application allows up to 9 Category fields and a virtually unlimited number of Criteria fields. With up to 30 characters allowed for each there is plenty of room for full descriptions.The easiest way to describe this relationship is by example.

Say you have several hundred images of your stamp collection on your computer. You would like to be able to view them in some logical manner. By setting up your own Categories and Criteria you could do just that. For instance:

Now you can do a search to locate images either individually or as groups. It would be possible to locate all images related to African, Blocks. Or you could find all images of Asian, Blocks, costing between $50 and $75, and dated from 1900 - 1920 in your collection. Or any other combination that made sense to you. Having located a group of images you might then do a text search of the description. This would allow you to find 1920 - 1940, Europe stamps and then do a search to find those showing Hitler or the Hindenburg.

Searches are made across Categories, so that it would not make sense to search for images related to Asia and Europe since these Criteria share the same Category.

The application is offered as shareware. This means you can download it and try it out for 30 days for free. If you find it useful and wish to register, there is a $27.50 registration fee. This will entitle you to free upgrades, until version 2.0. A Text File Search application is available by request. It is the same as the Graphic File Search, except it will not show images.
