- Authentication style:
- Depending on how often you wish Eudora will log
into your Mail Server to check for mail. This number should not be
set any lower than 15.
- If you wish to limit the size of incoming mail check the box on the right. Fill in the box to the right with a size limit.
- If this is checked, queued mail will be sent when you check for incoming mail.
- If this is NOT checked you will have to key in your password each and every time you log on to retrieve mail. In situations where your system is not secure this is a fine idea but somewhat hampers the user in that (1) above would pester you every fifteen minutes for the password.
- Generally speaking the size of Email being small you could leave mail on the server for a very long time before space would be at a premium. However, convention has it that once retrieved
you should clear the server of your mail to make room for other things.
Instead of leaving a copy of your mail on the server it is far better to archive your mail onto disk.
- As above, except allows for several days grace in case you lose some mail. A combination or this option and rigorous archiving of important messages is best.
- Three choices are given:
- First message not read by this machine
- Status: headers
- POP3 Last command
Choose the third option for compatability reasons unless advised otherwise.
- A poor choice. Do NOT check this box.
- Three choices are given:
- Passwords
- APOP
- Kerberos
Choose the first option for compatability reasons unless advised otherwise. If supported, Kerberos is the safest protocol. Indeed this
rather new option will soon be the standard due to its security.
