Jarig 2.1 helpfile
(version 0.99)
Welcome to the Jarig helpfile.
This is just this short version of the extensive Jarig Online Help
Choose the one that fits your need the best:
I want information about ...
Menu's
Jarig has some so called menu's. These are the 'File menu',
the 'Options menu' and a 'Help menu'.
These menu's can be made invisible by turning 'view menu' off in the settings. This can also be done
by dubbleclicking the Jarig window. This is also the easiest way to have the menu's reappear
when they are invisible.
Another menu is the popup menu which appears after pressing the right mouse button. In this menu
most of the options from the main menu's can be accessed.
This last menu is the one of the system tray icon. This menu appears after pressing the right mouse button on the
little red Jarig flag in the system tray.
Font settings
One of thing you can change is the font of the text you see in the Jarig window.
You can change the style, size and color of this text seperately.
The Font Settings window can be accessed by choosing 'Font Settings' in one of the menu's or by pressing F10.
View settings
You can turn on and off the following settings:
- menu (this can also be done by pressing <TAB>)
- Date : what day is it today
- Countdown : how many days until a given date
- Moon : information about how the moon looks today
- Birthdays : what it is all about
- Age : how old people become on this birthday
You can not only turn the date and moon on or off,
you can also choose if you want the information in short format or in normal format.
The View Settings window can be accessed by choosing 'View Settings' in one of the menu's or by pressing F11.
Jarig is able to countdown to a certain date. Want to know how much days left
until the year 2000? Or how many days left until next Christmas? Jarig will show the number of
days for you.
You can choose to have a sound being played on someones birthday! Just select
a sound from your harddisk (many nice sounds are downloadable from the Jarig homepage)
Jarig is able to show birthdays up to 99 days in the past and 99 days in the future with a maximum
of 50 birthdays.
One of the most exciting features of Jarig is the posibility to put it into the systemtray.
When you choose Jarig to run from the systemtray, the window will disappear from your screen
and a little red flag will appear in the systemtray. By pointing at it with the mouse you will
quickly see how much birthdays are near.
It is possible to make Jarig go to the systemtray immediately after starting it.
Jarig will warn you about birthday by turning the flag around!
Searching
The searching options can be accessed by pressing F3 or choosing for 'search'
in one of the menu's.
You can search for a name or for a birthday. The first way of searching will allow you to
fill in a name and find his or her birthday. The second way results in a name after you fill in
a birthday.
Editing birthdays
This is one of the most important parts of the program. If you do not add birthdays Jarig
will be worthless. So, it is case to insert all the birthdays you know right after you installed Jarig.
Adding a birthdays is easy. Just fill in all the data (year of birth is not necessary) and click 'Add'.
Changing birthdays is also easy. Select the birthday you want to change. Change what you want to change
and choose 'Change'. Or choose 'Remove' to have it removed.
Getting Help
Help is accessible by choosing it in the 'Help menu' or by pressing F1. You can choose to view the
fancy Online Help if you have access to the Internet. If not, just choose to view the helpfile
on your harddisk.
