- 1.1 - What is Identd?
Identd is a common method of identifying a user on a computer when
connecting to a host. IRC servers are one of the most common reasons
people run identd servers because some IRC servers won't even allow
users to connect unless they are running identd. Other servers use
identd as well, such as mail servers, and others.

Gobo's Identd Server is a small program which handles requests from
these servers and reports back the username which you specify in
File|Settings on the main window. (See Section 1.3)

- 1.2 - Installing Gobo's Identd Server
After running goidnt10.exe, (or unzipping goidnt10.zip), 3 files should
have been extracted:
   readme.txt (this file)
   goidentd.exe (the server program)
goidentd.ini (settings file for the server)
To start the Identd Server simply run goidentd.exe. If it is the first
time you are running the program, you need to specify your username.
(See next Section)

- 1.3 - Specifying a Username
When you first run the Identd server, a small happy face will appear in
the system tray on the Windows 95 Taskbar (next to the clock). Double
click on the face to unhide the main program window. On the main
window, select File on the window's menu. On the File menu select
"Settings...". On the Settings dialog box you can enter the desired
username and system. The default value for the System is "UNIX" this
is the most common system value even for windows computers and you
probably won't need to change it. After you enter your username, click
Ok on the Settings window. The Identd server will now report your
username to the servers who request it. When you close the server, it
saves the last Username and System values entered to goidentd.ini for
the next time you start the server. Click on file again and select
"Hide Window" to hide the main program window again.

- 1.4 - Closing the Program
When you want to close the program, double click on the happy face in
the system tray to bring up the main program window. Then you can
click the [X] in the upper right hand corner of the window or select
File|Exit from the menu. Both will close the program and remove the
happy face from the system tray.

- 1.5 - Tips
* Double click on the happy face in the system tray on the TaskBar to
display the identd server's main program window. Select "Hide Window"
from the File menu on the window or double click the happy face again
  to hide the window.

* The main program window displays the hostname of the last server to
send an identd request to your computer. If the window says "Looking
up host name..." it means that a request has occured but the server
is still determining the host name the request came from.

* If you'd rather have Gobo's Identd Server running all the time and not
have to start it every time you start your computer, add a shortcut to
the server to the Start Menu under Programs|Startup. This will cause
the identd server to start whenever Windows starts so you don't have
to think about starting it every time.

- 1.6 - Reporting Bugs or Sending Comments to the Author
If you find a bug in the program, please email me at:
jeffd@canso.ednet.ns.ca. I will fix the problem as soon as possible and
send you a new copy of the program when its ready. Thank you. :)

Comments about this program, good or bad, are always welcome. Email me
at jeffd@canso.ednet.ns.ca. If you have a bad comment though, at least
tell me what would've made the program better so that I can write
programs that people want. Also, if you have any ideas or concepts for
future programs, they are also welcome.
