TurboExplorer ReadMe (local page)

This is the local TurboExplorer® readme page and it's automatically displayed when you aren't online or is the first boot of TurboExplorer®. Read carefully before install TurboExplorer®.

Installation
Requirement

Turboexplorer® is based on VB5 Run-Time files (Service Pack version 3) therefore before executing the setup of TurboExplorer® you must be sure to have already installed on your system the VB5 Run-Time. If you don't have the VB5 Run-Time you must download it and install it before continuing.
Beyond to this Turboexplorer® needs Internet Explorer® 4 or above with Active Desktop component installed, Windows 95/98/NT, 3 MByte HD free space and WinZip 6.3 or above.

Running Setup

Extract the TurboExplorer® zipfile to a temporary directory and read the ReaMe.htm file first. Then double-click on the Setup.exe file which will begin the installation. All files in the temporary directory may be deleted once the installation is complete.

Startup Folder

When TurboExplorer® is installed you must add a link to turboexplorer.exe into your startup folder. TurboExplorer® will start on system startup and will stay resident without user interaction.

Installation Files

The TurboExplorer® setup program will install and/or will replace this files into your system :

• Visual Basic Ocx Files (windows system directory) : Comctl32.ocx,Tabctl32.ocx.
• TurboExplorer® Files (TurboExplorer directory) : TurboExplorer.exe, ReadMe.htm, Help.htm, PostCard.htm.

The VB5 Run-Time setup program will install and/or will replace this files into your system :

• Visual Basic 5 Run-Time Files (windows system directory) : Asycfilt.dll, Comcat.dll, Ctl3d32.dll, Msvbvm50.dll, Oleaut32.dll, Olepro32.dll, Stdole2.tlb.

Cautions

Like any other setup program TurboExplorer® involves making changes to your registry. Whenever registry changes are made, it is always advisable to backup your registry first.

Uninstallation

Like any other Windows program you can uninstall TurboExplorer® from the Add/Remove Programs icon in Control Panel. Don't try to delete by hand the Visual Basic Runtime files.

System Requirements

Windows 95/98 or NT4 with Internet Explorer® version 4 or above, Visual Basic 5 Run-Time (Service Pack 3) and 3 Mbytes hard drive space.

Configuration
Auto-Settings

Most of TurboExplorer® settings are automatic because it's strongly integrated with Internet Explorer® 4 and easy-to-use is a goal of the TurboExplorer® project. Thus despite to the complexity of TurboExplorer® only few manual setting are provided. My suggestion is to use default settings and tune only "Concurrent Threads" based on the throughput of your internet connection.

Manual-Settings

From the Setting folder you can change this settings:

• Concurrent Threads : Is the number of concurrent page download. Set this value on the throughput of your internet connection. A value of 5-8 concurrent download is for standard modem connection, increase it with faster connection (ISDN etc..). My suggestion is to change only this option.
• Msec Refresh : Is the cadence for the status checking of the Internet Explorer® instance. The default value is for standard CPU Pentium 100 or above, for slower CPU increase it to 2000/2500 msec.
• Max KBytes Files : Is the maximum length files allowed to download it. Decrease it if you prefer don't download large file or, vice versa, increase it if you have fast internet connection.
• Start On Page Completed : It set the start for the download. If this flag is checked (default) TurboExplorer® will start to follow the link on the page after the page will be completed.
• Follow Remote Links : It set the deep for the download. If this flag is checked (default) TurboExplorer® will follow the remote link (to page not on the same server of the starting page..). If this flag is unchecked TurboExplorer® will follow only local links (to page on the same server of the starting page).
• First Follow Local Links : It set the sequence for the download. If this flag is checked (default) TurboExplorer® will follow the local link (to page on the same server of the starting page..) and after will follow the remote link. If this flag is unchecked the sequence will depend by page structure.
• Load Page Contents : It set the downloading of the page contents. If this flag is checked (default) TurboExplorer® will download also the contents ( images, applets, etc..) of the pages or, vice versa, will download only the html portion of the pages.
• Save Files Into Cache : It set the storing mode of downloaded link. If this flag is checked (default) TurboExplorer® won't delete unvisited link from the TurboExplorer® cache at the shutdown. This mode of operation can't waste your hard disk space because TurboExplorer® use the same cache mechanisms of Internet Explorer® thus you can delete the TurboExplorer® cache when you want from the Internet Explorer® cache menu.

PostCard
Registration

TurboExplorer® 1.x is full free and don't need any registration. It's free because I want to know your opinion about it thus after 15 days TurboExplorer® will remember you to give me your opinion filling the PostCard page (personal data aren't required..) so I will be able to enhance it. That's the least you can do for me and after this operation TurboExplorer® will be unlocked.
