NOTE: If you are reading this file during setup you need to close
      this file to finish setup. 


FIRST THINGS FIRST
==================

Before following these instructions make sure

* the Server PC has a modem and Dial-Up Networking installed
* the Dial-Up Networking on the Server PC can connect to your 
  ISP (Internet Service Provider)
* you can browse the Internet from the Server PC

RideWay must be run on a Windows 95 or Windows NT 4 PC installed. 
A Network Interface Card (or LAN Card) must also be installed on 
the RideWay Server PC, and the LAN must properly operate the TCP/IP
protocol. You may have already installed the IPX/SPX or NetBEUI
protocols, these won't affect RideWay's operation.

STEP 1 Configuring TCP/IP For the Server PC
===========================================

* On a Windows 95 PC, click "Start" 
* Click "Settings" 
* Click "Control Panel" 
* Doubly-click "Network"

Under the "Configuration" tab, check if TCP/IP is installed. 
If "TCP/IP" appears somewhere in "The following network components 
are installed" box, then it is installed. Otherwise follow these 
steps to install TCP/IP software.

* Click "Add" 
* Click "Protocol" 
* Click "Add" 
* Under "Manufacturers, click "Microsoft" 
* Click "TCP/IP"
* Click "OK"

You should now be brought back to the "Configuration" tab.

* Click "TCP/IP->your LAN Card".
* Click "Properties" 
 
When the TCP/IP properties for the LAN card appears,

* Click "IP Address" tab
* Click "Specify an IP address" 
* In "IP Address", Enter "192.168.1.1" 
* In "Subnet Mask", Enter "255.255.255.0" 
* Click "DNS Configuration" tab
* Click "Disable DNS"
* Click "OK"

You should now be brought back to the "Configuration" tab.

* Click "TCP/IP->Dial-Up adapter".
* Click "Properties" 
* Click "IP Address" tab
* Click "Obtain an IP address automatically"
* Click "OK"
* Click "OK" again 

Windows 95 will now tell you that "You must restart your computer 
before the new settings will take effect. Do you want to restart 
your computer now?" Click "Yes".
 

STEP 2 Installing RideWay on the Server PC
==========================================

Before installing RideWay on the Server PC make sure there is no 
previous version of RideWay installed. If there is a version of 
RideWay already installed you should uninstall it first. Otherwise 
the newly installed RideWay may not be able to operate properly. 
Follow these instructions to check if a version of RideWay is 
currently installed

* From "Control Panel", doubly-click "Add/Remove Program"
* Under the "Install/Uninstall" tab, if RideWay appears then it 
  is installed.

If RideWay is currently installed, uninstall it by

* Click "RideWay ..."
* Click "Add/Remove"
* Under "Confirm File Deletion", click "Yes"

To install RideWay
 
* Doubly-click rideway-setup.exe
* Follow the instructions on your screen to install RideWay

To start RideWay

* On the desktop, click "Start"
* Click "Programs"
* Click "RideWay ..."
* Click "RideWay"
 
The screen should read,

"RideWay Dialer is not connected"
"RideWay Server is not running"

To set up RideWay

* Click "Dialer" 
* Click "Dialer Control..." 
* In "Default Connection", choose the Dial-Up Networking entry 
  for your ISP 
* Under "Redial", set to your preferences
* If you want to use "On-demand dialing", check the box and set 
  your preferences. "On-demand dialing" allows your client PCs 
  to send requests for the Server PC to initiate a connection 
  when the Server PC is not connected to your ISP. 
* Click "OK" 
* Back at the RideWay main screen, click "Server" 
* Click "Server Control"
* You need to enter the "DNS Servers" provided by your ISP. 
  If you do not have them, please contact your ISP and ask them 
  for the DNS servers 
* Click "Add" and enter DNS servers' IP addresses
* Click "OK"
* Click "OK" again to go back to the RideWay main screen
* Click "Server"
* Click "Start"
It will now read, "The RideWay Server is running"
 

STEP 3 Configuring TCP/IP for Client PCs
========================================

* On a Windows 95 PC, click "Start" 
* Click "Settings" 
* Click "Control Panel" 
* Doubly-click "Network"

Under the "Configuration" tab, check if TCP/IP is installed. 
If "TCP/IP" appears somewhere in "The following network components 
are installed" box, then it is installed. Otherwise follow these 
steps to install TCP/IP software

* Click "Add" 
* Click "Protocol" 
* Click "Add" 
* Under "Manufacturers, click "Microsoft" 
* Click "TCP/IP"
* Click "OK"

You should now be brought back to the "Configuration" tab.

* Click "TCP/IP->your LAN Card".
* Click "Properties" 
 
When the TCP/IP properties for the LAN card appears,

* Click "IP Address" tab
* Click "Specify an IP address" 
* In "IP Address", enter "192.168.1.2" for the first Client PC, 
  "192,168.1.3" for the second Client PC, ..., etc. 
* In "Subnet Mask", enter "255.255.255.0" 
* Click "DNS Configuration" tab
* Click "Enable DNS"
* In "Host", enter any name you want
* In "Domain", enter anything you want
* In "DNS Server Search Order", enter "192.168.1.1"
* Click "Add"
* Click "OK" 
* Click "OK" again 

Windows 95 will now tell you that "You must restart your computer 
before the new settings will take effect. Do you want to restart 
your computer now?" Click "Yes".


STEP 4 Configuring Browsers for Client PCs 
==========================================

Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0
-------------------------------
* On a Client PC, start Internet Explorer 4.0 
* Click "View" 
* Click "Internet Options" 
* Click "Connection" 
* Click "Connect to the Internet using a local area network" 
* Under "Proxy Server", Check "Access the Internet using a proxy server" 
* Click "Advanced" 
* In the box next to "Socks:", enter "192.168.1.1"
* In the "Port" box, enter "1080"

ONLY ENTER INFORMATION in the "Socks:" and its associated "Port". 
Leave all other boxes empty. Make sure that the box that says 
"Use the same proxy server for all protocols" is NOT checked. 

* Click "OK" 
* Click "OK" again 

Netscape Navigator 4.0
---------------------- 
* On a Client PC, start Netscape Navigator 4.0 
* Click "Edit"
* Click "Preferences..." 
* Doubly-click "Advanced" 
* Click "Proxies" 
* Click "Manual proxy configuration" 
* Click "View"
* In the box next to "Socks:", enter "192.168.1.1"
* In the "Port" box, enter "1080"

ONLY ENTER INFORMATION in the "Socks:" and its associated "Port". 
Leave all other boxes empty.

* Click "OK" 
* Click "OK" again
