Introduction

These files represent version 2.3 of AscToHTM. AscToHTM converts text files into HTML web pages. It recognises the layout of your file, and attempts to replicate it in HTML.

An OpenVMS version of this program is also available.

Installation

This .zip file contains an InstallShield installation kit. To install the program, simply run setup.exe. This will install the program, and add it to your Start menu. By default the files are installed to C:/Program Files/Jafsoft/AscToHTM

If you wish to remove the software, InstallSheild will add uninstall options for you. You can access this through Control Panel... Add/remove software. This process is also described in the text files that are installed.

The installation kit includes both Windows Help files and a HTML documentation set. The Windows Help is largely intended to give context sensitive help inside the program. The HTML documentation is better suited for looking things up, and learning more about the program. The index file is A2H.HTM

Program Status

This program is shareware. When installed it will give you a 30 day trial. Once 30 days are up you will need to register the software. See the About dialogue in the program for details. Re-installing the program will not normally grant an extra 30 days, although tracking down a later version of the shareware may do.

Distribution

You may freely distribute this software, provided you make no charge for it other than for media costs. If you wish to put this software on a CD or magazine cover disk you need the author's permission. This can be obtained by email to jaf@yrl.co.uk. This is largely to ensure that the version you have is up to date and offers the best representation of the software possible.

Registration

Registering the software currently costs $35. It is intended to cost "a few hours" of your time on the grounds that if it doesn't save you that then by all means don't register it.

Registration is free to FAQ maintainers (see the web site for details).

The unregistered version has a few limits (500 lines, no more than 5 files at once) and adds nag lines top and bottom of each page.

Registered users get regular free upgrades and some technical support during the early registration period.
