                                CHRYSANTHEMUM
                         VERSION 2.2 FOR WINDOWS 95

                       Copyright 1998 James T. Parker

     ***Function:

This is a general purpose screen saver that produces up to 230 colors
on the screen at one time with various geometric symmetries. A clock
and calander may be optionally displayed. Hitting a key while the saver
is running freezes the screen. Hitting a key again causes the saver to
continue. Moving the mouse causes it to exit. There is an animated and
a still slide option. The patterns are randomly generated. You should
never see the same pattern twice.

     ***Requirements:

A PC that runs Windows 95 and a SVGA monitor. The speed at least of a
100MHz Pentium is recommended for smooth animation but the slide show
     option can be used otherwise.

     ***Distribution:

This program is freeware. I give permission for anyone to use it or
distribute it as long as they do not charge more for it than a nominal
     amount for its distribution.

     ***Automatic Installation:

If you unzipped the file chrys22.zip in an empty folder, just double
click on SETUP. This folder may then be deleted after you are finished
     with README.TXT.

After the screen saver is installed, you will need to ACTIVATE it as
described below. If something went wrong with the installation, try
the manual installation described at the bottom of this document.

     ***To Activate Your Screen Saver:

Installing the screen saver does not activate it. You need that
knowledge not only to make the screen saver engage but also to tailor
its options to best suit your fancy.

     1. Double click on My Computer, then double click on Control Panel.

     2. A window will pop up. Double click on Display in that window.

     3. A large panel will appear with tabs at the top. Click on the
     screen saver tab.

     4. Near the middle of the panel will be the title of the current screen
saver and a down arrow next to it. Click on the down arrow and choose
     "Chrysanthemum".

     5. You may now click on settings to adjust the screen saver or click on
preview to see what the new adjustments will look like.

     6. Click on OK for new settings to take effect.

     ***Screen Saver Options:

     1. The "Show Clock" option shows a small calander and clock in blue in
the bottom right hand corner. It shifts up and down every 1 minute to
     save wear on the screen.

     2. The "Slide Show" option displays frozen images every 5 seconds.
This option is recommended if the display is jumpy in animated form. A
slow speed setting in combinaton with this option results in a slow
     transistion from frame to frame.

     3. The "Splash Screen" option turns on and off the inital message.

     4. The slow and medium speeds should be consistent from computer to
computer if the computers are fast enough. The flat out option lets
the display run as fast as it can go. If flat out is no faster than
slow, then you know your computer lacks horse power.

     ***Miscellaneous:

If you find a bug, it may be one that a patch now exists for. I have
noticed that the screen saver does not always "kick in" when I exit
from the DOS prompt and don't move the mouse. I have decided the
solution to this problem is non-trivial because several other
professional quality programs do the same thing. It could be a problem
with WIN95. If you have any other questions concerning the
installation or operation of this screen saver, be sure to email me at:
jtparker3@juno.com and be sure to mention "Chrysanthemum 2.2"

     ***Manual Installation:

     1. Go to the folder where the Chrysanthemum SetUp files are.

     2. Copy CHRYS0 and CHRYS1 to the SYSTEM folder directly below your
Windows folder. ( Normally, this folder is C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM )

     3. In the SYSTEM folder rename CHRYS0 to BWCC.DLL if it doesn't already
     exist.

     4. In the SYSTEM folder rename CHRYS1 to Chrysanthemum.scr if it
     doesn't already exist.

     5. Execute Windows Explorer and go to the SYSTEM folder mentioned
above. RIGHT click on Chrysanthemum.scr and LEFT click on Install.

     6. OK and close all windows. You are finished.

     ***Dedication:
