Help for Tester v2.0

Tester 2 is a Windows 95 Program intended for late primary and high school
students. Allows the user to enter in information and then asks questions
that the user supplies. Read on for more info...

If you were a user of the Tester v1, then I do apologise. It was a very badly
made program. This program has been tweaked, fine-tuned etc. and it works.
Tester v2.0 was started from scratch. Did not use one line from tester v1.

SECTION 1: Changes from v1.0

Did a major overhaul. Old version hardly worked at all. Started from scratch.

1. New interface

The interface has been changed to a single window for all questions, namely
the Direct, Multiple Choice and Labelling questions.

2. Editing

The new interface brings with it the ability to go backwards and forwards,
editing your questions, changing it's type completely, or just the wording.
Ability to jump from question to question, eg question 1 to question 57,
	with a single button press.

3. Main Window

Ability to match up controls to any screen size (usually). Status bar at the
bottom shows no. of questions, no. of marks, time taken so far (during test),
no. of questions done(during test), no. of correct questions done (during test),
	the latter two containing percentages.

4. Marking

Brand-new, very useful feature, that took quite a while to beat out all the bugs,
an option to save the incorrect questions answered during a test to a separate
test (.tst) file, to make the testing process a LOT easier, especially one of
those long tedious ones that half you get wrong, etc etc.

5. New Company Name

I have decided that the old name, Roachsoft, was very boring, and have now changed
it to the more attention-getting "Broken Toenail". Its main motive it getting
attention called to it. Hope it works!

SECTION 2: Current features

These are features not documented above that are worthy of mentioning.

1. Question Types

Three question types are currently available for use, Namely:

 1a. Direct Questions

Asks a direct question, expects a direct answer. Not case-sensitive, so an answer
of "The Bermuda Triangle" would be counted as the same as "ThE BeRmUdA TrIaNgLe"

 1b. Multiple Choice

Asks a question, then allows up to 12 choices, of which only one can be correct.
12 & less answers are allowed. Again, not Case-Sensitive. Mixes up the order
of the questions for no predictable patterns.

 1c. Labelling

Loads up a .BMP file and allows up to 12 labels to be placed on it. Answers
typed into supplied boxes. AGAIN, not case-sensitive.

2. Load\save

Obviously, there are load and save features included. A feature for using after
tests in the File menu is to save the incorrect questions answered to a different
file (see section 1.4). Also includes an Auto-save for incorrect questions. Save
incorrect questions window appears after test is stopped or finished.

SECTION 3: Creating a test

I have tried to keep the interface as easy to use as possible, but for anyone
having trouble, here is a short tutorial.

1. Start up Tester.

Self-explanatory. Find the Tester2.exe file and Run it!

2. Go to the "Test" menu

Find the "Test" menu at the top of the window and CLICK ON IT!

3. Click on "Edit"

Again, self-explanatory. Click on the caption "Edit".

4. Direct question

Right! let's first create a Direct question. Direct question is the default
option, so press "Tab" or "D" to select Direct Question again. This brings
you to the first text box. Type in a question there. EG: "Say Hello?".
Then press TAB to bring you to the next box. Type in an answer, EG:
"Hi". Then either click on the 'Next' button or press ENTER. This
	brings you to Question 2.

5. Multiple Choice

OK, let's try out the Multiple Choice. Press 'M', or select 'Multiple
Choice' from the drop-down menu. This brings you to the first block.
Type in a question there. Press TAB. Type in the CORRECT answer there.
Then press TAB. Type in an alternative answer, an incorrect one. Repeat
entering as many incorrect questions you like (up to 11) in the supplied
boxes. Then press either 'Enter' or click the 'Next' Button.

6. Labelling

Now for some labelling. First we'll have to find a bitmap to test it on.
c:\windows\clouds.bmp, usually supplied with Windows, is ideal. Type the
filename into the box and press 'Enter' or click the 'Labels' button to
enter Labelling mode. You will be brought back to the main screen. Your
chosen bitmap will be displayed, and an 'Ok' will be displayed at the
	bottom of the screen.

Now, find a place to put the pointer, and click. A line will appear,
connected to a textbox. Move around the textbox until you find a good
position. Click again, and the textbox will stick to it's position.

Now type in a fitting label for the area you have just labelled.

Click a different part of the picture and repeat steps until the desired
number of labels is acheived(max. 12). Then click OK.
You will be brought back to the Input window.

	Press OK there.

7. Running the test

NOW to run your newly created test! Go to the 'Test' menu and click 'Run Test'.
This will bring up, on the main page, the question for the Direct Question
and a place to input your answer. Type in either the correct or incorrect
answer, to experiment with the reactions. Do this with the other two questions,
advancing to the next one by either clicking 'OK' or pressing 'Enter'.

PLEASE NOTE that to go from one LABELLING box to the other, use TAB, not ENTER.

8. Saving incorrect questions

Right, to test the 'Save Incorrect Questions' feature, we go to the 'file'
menu and click on 'Save Incorrect Questions'. If you have gotten any questions
wrong, you will be given a 'Save As' window. Type in a name for your test.

9. Saving the test

Now to save the entire test. Go to either 'Save Test' or 'Save Test as' in
the 'File' menu and type in a fitting name, NOT the same as the incorrect
	questions one.

Right, now you know how to create a test! the questions can be in any order, and
in the complete version you can have up to 1000 questions. The shareware demo version
can only have seven! See below for ordering...

SECTION 4: Notes

1. Emptiness...

Try to avoid having empty questions or answers in your tests. Some features
use the fact that the textbox is empty to indicate the amount of multiple
choice or labelling question options to display, and the end of the test.
