		>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>INTRODUCTION<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Please read this file before installing WinSafe95.
If you have any questions or need any assistance please
contact us via E-mail or phone. We will respond to E-mail
	the same day.

The installation of WinSafe95 is the most important part
of restoring your system in the event of a crash. WinSafe95
does not attach itself to your system as other programs do,
instead it installs itself to itself in order to be able
to restore your system. The installation and setup time
will have been well spent in the event of a crash.

You will find step by step installation instructions
	further on in this file.

If you have your Windows directory on a drive other
then C: Read SPECIAL NOTES at the bottom of this page.
If your C: drive is compressed Read SPECIAL NOTES at the
        bottom of this page.

The setup program must be used to install WinSafe95.
	Follow these instructions carefully!
The setup program will give you on screen instructions.
Due to the vast differences in computer hardware and
software, WinSafe95 must be programmed to your individual
computer. WinSafe95 looks for and reads all Hidden files.
Most other programs will bypass Read Only and Hidden files
(Read Only and Hidden are attributes, these are file
	properties).

WinSafe95 is one of the most advanced backup utilities
available. WinSafe95 will fix small problems as well as
	most major crashes.

WinSafe95 will not work properly if you do not use the
Setup Program and then follow the steps below.

If you reinstall WinSafe 95 you must uninstall WinSafe95
first. Use the Uninstall command under UTILITIES on the menu
bar or the Setup1 program. Be sure all Windows programs are
closed. If you already have WinSafe95 installed use the
Update command in the setup program.

Please note that once the program is installed you should
never have to reinstall it unless you delete the Winsafe.ini
	file.

Also, please note that if at any time you use Start Testing
be sure to click on Test Complete before shutting down the
	WinSafe interface.

WinSafe95 will tell you when the installation is complete.
You will need to restart your computer to complete the
	installation.

Follow the on screen instructions. Once the WinSafe95
interface starts you can access the Help file to assist you
with the installation. The help file is located under
the Menu Item FILES on the WinSafe95 interface.

You will need to have your Microsoft Windows CD (not the
manufactures CD) available to install some optional files.
If you do not have the Windows 95 CD then WinSafe can
install these files at another time. These files are
available on our Web Site. To install these files later,
simply click on the MSD button and the System Info button.

              >>>>>>>>>>>>>>HOW TO INSTALL:<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
	1) Copy or unzip all files to an empty directory on your C:
drive. WinSafe must be installed to the C:\Winsafe
because if you crash, MSDOS maybe unable to load any
other drive except your Floppy boot and your c:
	   drive.

	2) After starting the Setup program it will instruct you
to reboot. It will then shut down until you've rebooted.
After rebooting, the Setup program will automatically
start. If it fails to start automatically, then click on
the Setup program again and a message will tell you
that an error has occured during bootup and to reboot.
This step is mandatory to ensure that the system is
not corrupted before WinSafe95 starts installing.

	3) Next, the Installer will ask you if you have a compressed
C: drive. If you have created an Empty drive click No.
If you have not compressed any drive click No. If you have
compressed any drive other than C:,click No
Click Yes only if the C: Drive is compressed (C: IS NOT
	   THE HOST).
If you do not know the difference between an empty or
	   compressed drive:
	   A) If you compress the C: Drive then you will have the H
(or some other letter) drive as the Host Drive.
	   B) If you have created a Empty Drive on C: then
The C: Drive will be the Host drive.
If you are still unsure, look for the file Drvspace.001
or Drvspace.000. What ever drive contains this file is the
Host Drive. You may also look in the DriveSpace program.

	4) The Installer will look for system files. Your system may
not currently have all the files that Winsafe95 requires.
In the event one of these files does not exist the Installer
will create it after telling you which file it needs. These
newly created files will have no effect on your system.
WinSafe requires these files so that if in the future you
should make changes such as install a new mouse, compress
a drive or add a sound card etc.,WinSafe will be able to
save the changes without having to reinstall WinSafe.

If you click cancel the installation will terminate.
Winsafe95 cannot run without these files.

	5) If a MSDOS window stays open close it and continue.
WATCH THE TASK BAR FOR MSDOS WINDOWS

	6) The Installer will look for the Windows95 Setup program and
cabinet files on your computer. If it does not find them
the Installer will ask you if you have them on your hard
drive. If you do not have them on your hard drive you
may copy all the cabinet files and complete setup program
along with all the files in the setup directory to your hard
drive now, then press yes when all the files are copied. If
you wish to copy these files later or not at all click No.

To enable WinSafe to reinstall Windows 95 from DOS or Safe
Mode at a later time on click on "Reinstall Windows 95"
under the Menu Item Restore on the Winsafe interface.
This option is useful if you are completely unable to
get Windows 95 up and running. WinSafe95 can then reinstall
Windows 95 for you from DOS or from Safe Mode if your CD
	   fails to load.

	7) When the Installer starts the WinSafe interface you will
be starting a test by selecting the Setup Menu Item Start
Test.(The Menu bar are the words along the top of the
interface, FILES, RESTORE, SETUP, UTILITIES and Menu Items
are the items listed in each menu).
You will also need a pen and paper handy to jot down any
file names that WinSafe reports that it can not find
during the test. Or files that are in use or have Read Only
	   Attributes.

WinSafe95 will now look for non-system hidden files. If it
finds one, a message box will appear and tell you that
WinSafe95 cannot find a file with a line # and file name and
path write the file. Or a message box that files are in use
or have read only Attributes. Write then
name and path down on a piece of paper example:
	   (c:\Windows\system.sys) and click OK.
	   A) If after Start test is complete and you get no messages
that WinSafe could not find a file, Go to step 10.

           B) If you do get a message that a file cannot be found:
Write the name of the file down and when the Test is
complete click Attribute. If you Read the help file now
you can get additional information about this step if
you need it. The Help file is located under the Menu
	      Item FILES.

If WinSafe95 finds any additional files you will be asked
to use the Attribute command. This is the Menu Item under
the Start Test. Enter the file name in the first window.
You will now see a MSDOS window with a line similar to
	      the one below:
	      "A SHR SYSTEM.DAT C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.DAT"

Make note of the letters between the A and SYSTEM.DAT.
In the example, the letters are SHR. Then close the MSDOS
	      window.

	8) In the next window to appear type the letters that appeared
in the previous MSDOS window (without spaces), and click OK.
If in step 4 only an R was present type the letter R. If no
letter appeared then enter a Zero.

	9) After you have completed step 8 with all files reported,
click on SETUP on the menu bar and then on START TEST again.
You should not receive any messages that WinSafe95 cannot
read a file. If you still get a message click on SETUP and
then WINSAFE.INI. Look for [HIDDEN] and verify that you have
entered the correct file name and path.

        10) Next click on the FILE REPORT button. This will take a
few moments longer to finish then the test did.

       	11) When the Report is finished a window will appear and tell
you to click on TEST COMPLETE and to reboot.

	12) If you have IE.40 on your system, set the Wait Time (located
under the Setup Menu Item) to 30. Winsafe will make
adjustments each time you reboot until the Wait Time is
	    set correctly.

	13) Close WinSafe95 and reboot. When you reenter Windows,
WinSafe95 will tell you to backup. Use the Backup With
            Current Button.

        14) After you have backed up your current system files,
WinSafe95 is ready to use. At this point it is wise
to create a system report. You will need to have the file
MSD.exe in the Winsafe folder in order to create this report.
This report will be very handy in the event of a major
crash, installation of new hardware, or if you reinstall
Windows in the future. This report can take as long as
20 minutes to complete. It will create checksums on all
files as well as create a written file of the configuration
of your system and a written copy of you system files, less
            the Registry.

You will need to delete all Chklist.ms files first (if they
exist on your system). These files will be recreated during
	    the report process.

		>>>>>>>>>>>SPECIAL NOTES<<<<<<<<<<<<

If you place the Windows Directory (folder) on a drive other
then The C: Drive: that drive may not be available to you or
WinSafe95 from Dos in the event of a crash. WinSafe95 will only
be able to restore your system in Safe Mode if the other
	drive is unavailable from DOS.
Be sure that Windows is not on a slave drive.

It is not recommended that you compress the C: Drive. If you
compress the C: Drive the Host drive may not be available to
restore from Dos or even safe mode. You are better off creating
Empty Drive on C:. Compressing other drives such as D: or E:
	have no effect on restoring.
