WebCut 1.1 beta 1
-----------------

1.Introduction

WebCut is a slim and simple tool which can grab webpages on the World Wide Web
and save them on your harddisk reserving graphics, links and even frames.
It is developed by using the latest Java technologies so you will be able to
run WebCut on many different platforms.

This disturbution will expire in 45 days after installation.

2.System Requirements

WebCut will run in any computer which can execute Java Application. At this
moment, most of the computers need to install JDK (Java Develop Kit) to run
Java Applications. For the version with Windows 95/NT, we have already
included the JDK but we have not included JDK in this disturbution. You may
obtain JDK in

   http://java.sun.com:80/nav/download/index.html

WebCut was developed with JDK1.1.5 so you should use JDK1.1.5 to run it. We
will use JDK1.1.5(or the latest version of JDK at that moment) in our next
version. Note that if you are using the WebCut version for Windows 95 or NT,
you don't have to download the JDK.

If your operating system support Java executable (e.g. Linux, JavaOS), you will
be able to run WebCut right away.

3.Installation

3.1 Windows 95 / NT
Run the file "wcut11b1.exe" and the setup program will guide you through the setup
procedure.

3.2 All Other Platforms
After you have extracted the downloaded file, all files will be place inside the
directory "webcut". When you run it at the first time, WebCut will write some
default setting in your home directory. So most of the installation are done
automatically.

JDK in some platform may require you to set the "CLASSPATH" enviornment. In
this case, you have to add the directory where you installed WebCut to
"CLASSPATH".

4.Start WebCut

4.1 Windows 95 / NT
Use the shortcut created in your Start Menu.

4.2 All other Platforms
If you run WebCut with JDK, you should change your current directory to the one that
you have installed WebCut. And run "java webcut.WebCut". If you get the
message "Class webcut.WebCut not found", add the path where you installed WebCut
to your "CLASSPATH" environment.

If your operating system can run Java Application directly, you should go to the
directory and run "./webcut.WebCut.class". Then WebCut will be stared.

5.How to view the pages that you have downloaded?

When you first time run WebCut in your machine(or account), it will create a
directory called "localpages" under your user root directory. WebCut will
update the file "index.html" inside this directory when it download any web
pages. You can open this file with your web browser. Then you will find all
downloaded pages linked to this page.
