			INTRODUCTION
			------------

WebSnap is a shareware program that allows you to include video stills in your
web pages using any Windows 95 video capture system. Images files conform to the
standard JPEG format, allowing any browser to view these images with no
additional 'plug-in' software.

WebSnap will grab images from your camera at a predetermined interval and save
them to a specified file in the JPEG format. WebSnap allows you to select the
picture interval from one second to one day. The images can be captioned and
stamped with the time and date. Captured images can be transferred to a remote
Web server using ftp facilities built into the program.

To run the program you will need a Windows 95 PC with video capture hardware.
Once running WebSnap will automatically detect suitable hardware. The program
requires no special set-up. WebSnap has been designed to work on low performance
computers and is compatible with the majority of video capture systems.

To include a WebSnap image into your web page, simply add an HTML link to the
file, as you would with any other image file.

Note: this documentation relates to the registered version 2.0. Some of the
facilities described are not present in the unregistered version.

			OPERATION
			---------

WebSnap has been designed with a simple, single-window interface. The most
common functions are available from the main window.

To use the program, simply select the required picture interval and click on the
'start' button. WebSnap will then use the default settings to create an image
(c:/websnap.jpg). Recording will stop when the 'stop' button is clicked. To
change the location of the video file or the JPEG compression settings click on
the 'set-up' option on the main menu.

You will be presented with a number of options: -

* Video Settings
      This will launch an external program supplied by the manufacturer of your
video capture hardware. Typically, this will allow you to modify settings such
as contrast, brightness etc.

* Video Format
      This launches a second external program supplied by the manufacturer
allowing you to modify settings such as image size etc.

* Video file
      This option launches a standard 'save file' dialog, which allows you to
select the name and location of the image file produced.

* Image Quality
      This allows you to select different video compression ratios, giving the
option of trading off picture quality against disc space requirements. Some
experimentation may be required to determine which setting best suits your
requirements.

* Captioning
      Three checkboxes select whether captions, time and date stamps are added
to the image.

* Ftp settings
      This determines whether captured images are to be transferred to a remote
computer using the file transfer protocol. If selected, the hostname, username
and password for the remote machine must be entered together with the directory
and filename for the remote file.

The best way to understand the effects of these options is simply to try them.

NOTE: the following restrictions apply to the unregistered version

* Picture interval is limited to 10-30 seconds.
* Captioning is selected and can not be switched off

			REGISTRATION
			------------

The demonstration copy of WebSnap can be registered by obtaining a valid
registration number. Once you have your registration number simply click on the
'register' button. A window will appear prompting you for the registration
number. Once you have correctly entered a valid number all functions will be
enabled and all references to the software as an 'unregistered demo' will
disappear together with the 'register' button.

Registration costs $20.00 (US dollars) for each single copy.

Note:
Each copy can only be used on a single machine.
Each copy will get a separate registration number.
