GENERAL HINTS AND TIPS ---------------------- * If a fish jumps out of the water reduce the drag instantly to stop your line from snapping. * Keep an eye on the wind direction indicator when you are casting as the wind will affect your cast and you may lose your lure. * Be careful when fishing around obstacles they can break your line if you get snagged up in them. * Take note of the tips given by Fish Fishburne in the free fishing section. * The fish can become a little 'hook shy' close to the boat. * Remember to give yourself plenty of time to reach the weigh in point. If you get there after the closing time, you will be disqualified, this is indicated by your name being displayed in the Rankings table, followed by DIS rather than the weight that you have caught (whiich is not valid) * Use the save game feature, it is useful if you hit a fishing dry spot. * Catch as many bass as you can. Use the full day even if you have already caught a good weight, to improve your skill. * Move to another area if a fish shakes loose or your line breaks. Chances are the fish will be spooked or wary. * When a fish runs, don't try to reel in or you might break the line. Let it run and slowly reel him in. * Large Bass are more difficult to hook, you may need more patience and have to run your lure by him for longer. * Look for cover where fish can hide. * Don't stay in one area too long, the fish are soon spooked, and you may waste valuable fishing time. * Start far away and move back towards your dock as the day progresses. * Look for waterways flowing into the main lake. Fish often feed there. * Fish are attracted to shade and deep water in warm weather. * Check your tension when you 'snap' your line, it can increase quickly. * Sometimes you don't have to go very far to catch one. * If you have a fish on your line that you don't want reduce your drag as this makes it easier for the fish to slip the hook. ============================================================================ TROUBLE SHOOTING INFORMATION ---------------------------- We have made every attempt to allow for easy installation of this game on to your system. However, due to the nature of the various hardware and software configurations currently in the marketplace, we have put together this extensive trouble shooting guide, in the event you experience any difficulties. INSTALLATION RELATED ISSUES To change any of the options in the install program on the install screen (for example the directory to install TNN OUTDOORS BASS TOURNAMENT '96), first click on the box that contains the directory C:\FISH. Move the cursor to where you want to make changes using the left and right arrow keys. Then use the backspace key, the delete key is disabled. Should the INSTALL program be unable to identify your sound card, press the ESC key. The installation process will be concluded as normal, saving the configuration of the game to use NO sound card. SOUND CARD RELATED ISSUES This game requires a Sound Blaster compatible sound card to run. You can set up your sound card by using the install program or by using the SETSOUND program included in the directory where you installed the game. To run the program, type SETSOUND and follow the on-screen instructions. SETSOUND can auto-detect the values for you or you can over-ride this by clicking on the boxes and enter in the values yourself. Note: Some sound cards will not configure automatically if they are set to operate on DMA channels 0 or 3. Remember, this product was designed to be used with a Sound Blaster compatible sound card. VIDEO CLIP (FMV) RELATED ISSUES Your CD drive needs to have at attainable transfer rate of 300Kb (Double Speed) for the FMV sequences to work correctly. If your drive is not fast enough you will experience some stuttering while Fish Fishburne is talking. Furthermore, your system needs to have version 2.23 (or newer) of MSCDEX.EXE. This is the system extension through which it carries out all of it's CD manipulation after the initial installation process. VIDEO CARD RELATED ISSUES This program uses an extended VESA driver. If you experience any video problems, run the program UVCONFIG which initializes the driver according to the video card in your machine. If you experience problems or wish to cancel the UNIVBE driver, instead of typing RUN, type RUNNOVBE followed by pressing the Enter key as an alternative. MEMORY RELATED ISSUES This program needs at least 8 MB of memory to run. If you have any TSR or other memory resident programs that use a lot of memory, it is advisable that you create a boot disk to run the game. If you feel that the memory configuration of your system needs adjusting, run MEMMAKER from DOS and follow the instructions. Note: As you will have to copy information from your current set- up, it would be advisable to get a hard copy print-out of the files AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS located on the root directory of your hard disk (locate by DIR C:\CONFIG.SYS etc.). Before you do this, make sure your printer is connected. To print out a hard copy from your root directory (C:\), type TYPE AUTOEXEC.BAT > PRN. Repeat this process for your config.sys by substituting AUTOEXEC.BAT with CONFIG.SYS. You should now have a hard copy of both your AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS. Information on how to make a boot disk is as follows: 1. From the DOS prompt, change the directory to the drive containing the TNN Outdoors Bass Tournament '96 game CD (eg D: or E: (whatever designator is assigned to your CD-ROM DRIVE). 2. Type MAKEBOOT and press Enter. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions. 4. After following these instructions, your floppy disk will contain the basis of your GAME BOOT DISK. It is only a basis, as we cannot know the specifics of your system (where the mouse drivers are stored on the hard disk, what they are called, etc.). What we have done is format the floppy disk with a system file and copied from your written standard command lines (such as defining the PATH, etc.). You will now have to edit the structure of the two files on the floppy disk in order to pass over all of the information required. PLEASE ENSURE THAT WHEN YOU ARE EDITING THESE FILES THAT YOU EDIT THE AUTOEXEC.BAT AND CONFIG.SYS CONTAINED ON THE FLOPPY DISK, NOT ON THE HARD DISK. 5. EDITING THE BOOT DISK CONFIG.SYS File: Let's say the BOOT DISK is in Drive A. Type EDIT A:\CONFIG.SYS, then press Enter. The edit window will display the basis of your BOOT DISK CONFIG which you will build upon. The first three lines have standard commands. You need to add the necessary command line as indicated in line 4 to recognize your CD-ROM. Your revised CONFIG.SYS should follow the outline below: BUFFERS=30 FILES=30 LASTDRIVE=Z DEVICE=C:\DEV\CDROM.SYS /D:MSCD001 The first 3 lines are as they were set up by MAKEBOOT. Line 4 identifies the CD ROM Driver. There will be a similar line in your original CONFIG.SYS (from the hard disk), locate it, (it may look different) and add it to the file you are editing. In some cases, your original CONFIG.SYS may have loaded device drivers High (e.g. DEVICEHIGH=L:1,4560=C:\MOUSE). Do not have the BOOT DISK loading device drivers in High memory. Edit such lines so that such drivers are loaded LOW or Base memory, as in the example above. 6. Editing the BOOT DISK AUTOEXEC.BAT File: PROMPT $P$G PATH C:\;C:\DOS C:\DOS\MOUSE.COM C:\DEV\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD001 The first 2 lines are set up by MAKEBOOT. These are needed to initialize your hard drive root directory and the directory where your DOS files are, etc. Line 3 is required in order to run your mouse driver and must be copied from your original AUTOEXEC.BAT file located on the root directory of your hard drive. The name may vary from the example line, but should be easy to spot in your old AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Line 4 sets up your CD-ROM drive and is very important. Copy this line, including all parameters, from your existing AUTOEXEC.BAT file located on the root directory of your hard drive. In regard to lines 3 and 4, be sure that the command lines do not invoke loading the items into Hi-Memory, they must be loaded into base memory. NOTE: The auxiliary lines shown here are examples, they need to be substituted by the appropriate command lines extracted from your original CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT located on the root directory of your hard disk. This is why we stated earlier that a hard copy print-out of such files would be very useful. 7. Your boot disk should now be ready for use. Place this boot disk in your primary floppy disk drive and REBOOT the computer. When the system is finished booting, you will see A:\. Type C:\ then press Enter to change to the C:\ prompt. Once at the C:\ prompt, type CD FISH or the name of the directory that was created during installation. Type RUN to enter the game. WINDOWS RELATED ISSUES TNN OUTDOORS BASS TOURNAMENT '96, can be launched on most systems from Windows through the RUN option from the FILE menu. However, this product was not designed as a Windows application and as such you may experience problems running under Windows on some systems. Furthermore, if you experience any problems after running Windows, reset the machine and run it from the DOS prompt or from your boot disk. OTHER ISSUES If you have SMARTDRV loaded on your system, TNN OUTDOORS BASS TOURNAMENT '96 will not work properly. SMARTDRV is a disk cache loaded in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Disable SMARTDRV by editing your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Locate the line containing SMARTDRV. Type REM and a space in front of that line, save the file from the file menu in the MS-DOS Editor, then reboot. RUNNING TNN OUTDOORS BASS TOURNAMENT '96 UNDER WIN95 1.
