You get some strange coincidences as you casually wander through life and one happened at Cambridge this year. Playing with Boo Hewerdine was Rob Peters who I sort of vaguely recognised. It turned out he used to play with "Everything But The Girl, which was where I recognised him, but that he also played in a very early version of Ruby Blue. Rob is a member ofWe’ll Always Have Paris, who started off as an acoustic duo with Della Roberts. Recently they have been joined on stage and recording by former Ruby Blue member Anthony Cootes, so completing a circle. All that is really by the by as this is really a piece about We’ll Always Have Paris, and a cassette the band have out "Lost In The Fields Of England" a combination of studio and live tracks. The live tracks are recorded on four track, though you would never believe from listening as the tracks have been wisely used and well mixed. The songs are penned by Rob Peters and Della Roberts and take on a good modern folk feel with as much attention played to the rhythm and back as it is to the vocal and melody, producing an excellent sound. Something that was recognised by the band winning 1994 Brum Beat DEP International Studios Competition, which was run to find the best 4 unsigned bands in the West Midlands. The band went into the DEP International Studio during late October and recorded a song that will be put onto a four track CD. The band also had a BBC Session on the John Taynton Show which went out on 9 Local stations again in late October which were the first recordings to feature the new line up of, Steve Shaw(Violin), Micky Harris(Bass), Anthony Cootes (Guitars) who is also playing with Animals That Swim. We'll Always Have Paris are on the verge of making a breakthrough and as you can tell by the recording here, are a band simply brimming over with talent.
