Once in place, the insect crawls up into the ocular cavity and burrows painlessly to the target's brain, where it clamps on and begins transmitting. This serves as a neural scan which provides the information necessary to perform the shapeshift. This process takes about 100 ticks. The information retrieved cannot be stored, and thus this scan is a necessary precursor to every shapeshift. (In other words, the Kur'Pupu cannot keep a "library" of data.) The shapeshift itself takes about half a tick.
